“Just your typical bar, overpriced”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Good selection of craft beers. The food was mediocre and pretty expensive. The service was quite good.

“Inattention to service”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

My wife and I visited on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner before an evening commitment. We were seated at 5 p.m. and not greeted by our waiter until 5:10. He asked if we had time constraints. We said yes and also that we had been there for ten minutes waiting for him to come to the table. His response -- he was in a meeting.

Around 5:20 we ordered our meal, including the "order ahead" dessert that takes 30 minutes to prepare. Our meal was served around 5:30 and we finished around 5:50. At 6:05 I flagged down the waiter and asked how much longer for the dessert. He said it would be another 10 to 15 minutes because he put in the order when he saw that we were almost finished with the meal. I asked why he didn't put it in when we ordered the meal. He made up an excuse.

We called over the manager, explained what had happened, including that we told him we had a time constraint, told him we couldn't wait for the dessert and wanted it taken off the bill. His only response -- I'm sorry.

Much of a restaurant experience is based on the staff and how they treat guests and handle mistakes. Based on our experience, we will strongly consider the dozens of other options in Bethesda before returning to this restaurant.

“Bethesda's Best Food (and Wine)”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

The restaurant is very comfortable and inviting. The moment the hostess greets you, you feel relaxed and welcome. Great bar with full menu, open kitchen in view, very comfortable dining area. The food is simple but creative, fresh, and delicious. Prices are reasonable to quality and dining experience. The fish special is well prepared, sauces are tasty and never too heavy, and usually includes an interesting combination of fresh vegetables (like fennel and cranberries and wild mushrooms). The pizza's are nice and (never will you have a pizza with apples and blue cheese that tastes so good). The salmon burger is the best you will eat. Great hand cut fries and potato chips. Of course the wine selection is outstanding also.

“A pleasant surprise”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

After arriving in Bethesda late on a Sunday, my wife and I searched near our hotel for a restaurant and came upon Food Wine and Co. Usually we don't try a new restaurant without first looking at its menu, and in this case there was none posted outside, but we took a chance and weren't disappointed. The decor is elegant and the service excellent. The dinner menu as a whole is somewhat nouveau and inventive, so for some dishes the diner must take a leap of faith that the combination of ingredients will be pleasing. My wife and I played it somewhat safe by choosing the bacon-wrapped pork loin on a bed of diced or pureed vegetables and in a mild mustard sherry sauce. This was very nice, though a little salty, and for each of us the center of the otherwise superb thick round of pork was underdone. For dessert, we took our waiter's advice and had the mixed berry cobbler, served with an oatmeal cookie and vanilla ice cream: one of the best cobblers we've ever had. We would definitely return.

“Excellent Food”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

This place was right across the street from our hotel, and we could not have been happier with the food. They had pretty much the best pizza crust I've ever tasted, an amazing truffle burger, and gruyere mac and cheese which is a must if you go here.
