We ran down to Washington, DC to take the grand kids to the National Zoo. This was a great location, as free parking and there was a Metro station that took us straight to the zoo, or we could drive 10 minutes and park at the Zoo ($16 - $22 to park at the zoo).
The staff was very friendly We showed up with 4 kids (ages 3 to 5). They all had a good time in the pool and local dinning ranged from comfort Dinners to high in dinning. (The G Kids enjoyed the dinner best!)
