“Great lunch at the Cellar”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

We came during off peak season in October, where most restaurants around York Harbor were closed. The Cellar Pub is located downstairs from the B&B. Very spacious with a friendly staff, and extensive menu.

We ordered the seafood cocktail martini: lobster, crab, and giant prawns. Then split the very large philly cheese steak sandwich. A Bit pricey, $42 (including a Guinness beer), but the place was situated in a charming area of town.

The cottages looked lovely, maybe next time we will stay the night.

We just spent two nights at the York Harbor Inn and were very impressed with the warm and friendly staff. We stayed in room 302 which was recommended to us by our daughter and son-in-law. The room was very spacious with a king size four poster bed, two comfortable chairs, flat screen tv, desk, wifi and a love seat facing a working fireplace. Our many windows looked out on the ocean across the street. A very pretty view and an easy walk to the beach and the cliff walk. This room also comes with a massive bathroom and jacuzzi. We ate in the upstairs dinning room the first night and ordered from the fixed menu which offered three choices each for salad, entree and dessert at a cost of $18.95. My husband and I had the Vermont country salad which was delicious. For an entree my husband ordered the fish which was very good and I ordered the sirloin tips with a mushroom sauce. The steak was good, but the mashed potatoes and sauce had way too much pepper in them. For dessert we had sorbet and Indian pudding. Both desserts were good. The dining room is very comfortable with a wonderful ocean view. The service was excellent as well. Our second night we ate at the cellar pub. The atmosphere is very nautical and you feel as though you are on a well appointed yacht. We both ordered the chicken under a brick. The helping was very generous and the chicken was good. However again we both felt there was too much pepper in the chicken and potatoes. My husband's polenta tasted more like stuffing. Again the service was excellent, the atmosphere romantic, and the live entrainment was an added plus. All in all we enjoyed our stay, dinners and continental breakfast. The location is great as you have lots of great places to walk such as the cliff walk and fisherman's walk. We were also able to visit Nubble Light, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport and Stonewall Kitchen. On our way home we stopped at Mount Agamenticus and hiked to the summit. At the top we were rewarded with a beautiful view of the Atlantic on one side and the Presedential range on the other side. There are many different and easy trails to choose from the trail map. We took the Ring Trail to Blueberry Bluff to the summit. This was a good way to burn off some of the many calories we enjoyed on this trip!

Loved the coziness of the room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast was enjoyable in the dining room with views of the Atlantic. Visiting during the off season allows one to experience the peace and quiet of the inn and tp appreciate its history and charm at a leisurely pace.

The start of a 10 day tour of New England. Could not have been better. Great location, large comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff (particularly the breakfast crew). Evening meal not as good as expected, but nice restaurant with pleasant atmosphere. The hotel is pricey but worth it.

My wife and I spent a night at the Harbor Crest building of the York Harbor Inn. This is the only building that allows pets so that worked for us. The check in process at the main Inn was nice and the desk clerks were very helpful. The Harbor Crest was beautiful and the amenities were great. The kitchenette had good breakfast food with coffee and tea available any time. The only odd thing for us was that we only saw one employee during the night we were there. Not a big deal because we didn't need anything but just different for people not used to Inns.

The jacuzzi tub was the best part of the room. Most hotel jacuzzi's are just a standard bathtub with a water jet. This was a huge jacuzzi that I could fit my 75" frame into. We loved it. Had a nice fireplace that came with easy to follow instructions. We paid a lot for the night but the area is amazingly beautiful and you pay a price for that. I would definitely return for a longer stay next time.

Room Tip: Get a jacuzzi, they are great!

My wife and I have visited the York Harbor Inn approximately 10 times during the off-season months. While this causes us to miss the best weather, we also avoid the crowds and noise that you would normally associate with one of Maine's most scenic and lovely locations. We also enjoy significantly lower rates at the Inn; especially if you visit during Sunday through Thursday evenings.

The Inn boasts several attractive buildings on the same or adjacent properties; all within easy walking distance of the main building where you check-in. The main building also boasts a splendidly appointed cellar bar with a sailing theme. The restaurant on the main floor is more formally presented with a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean. The Inn enjoys a cooking relationship with the Stonewall Kitchen so this should give you an idea how good the food is. Nobody does Maine Lobster better than their professional chefs.

The rooms themselves range from quaint and homey to truly luxurious with appropriate price differences; all of which present uncommon value. The buildings have a classic New England look to them which is even more attractive if you are from other parts of the country where this is not something that you are used to. If you want an ocean view then make sure that you ask for it when making your reservations. One of the ocean view rooms goes for about $99 during the week in the off-season. Where do you find something like that anywhere else? I served in the Navy for 8 years so I know a spectacular ocean view when I see one.

We love the food and we make a point of being hungry when we show up so that we can have lunch in the cellar pub as soon as we check-in. The service from the front desk to the pub to the restaraunt upstairs is delightful and makes you feel more like you are at a resort than an Inn or a B&B. Truly pleasing live music is a plus during the evenings. The continental breakfast is very good and very free.... with that same truly priceless ocean view.

There is a great deal to do in the area. The very famous Nubble Lighthouse is roughly a 10 minute drive that is so beautiful that you will wish that it was longer. The Kittery Outlets are around 20 minutes away and there are countless shops and seaside restaraunts. Want coffee and a pastry by the ocean? Head on out to Perkins Cove in the neighboring Ogunquit.

We are always delighted to see the staff and they go a long way towards making you feel truly welcome. This place cares about their guests and they truly understand hospitality (Paul and Greg are our favorites). The front desk is staffed 24/7 so you can always count on that concierge level of service regardless of the time of day that your need arises.

I read some of the reviews on this site to include the good ones and the bad ones. As far as the bad reviews are concerned, I kind of find myself wondering if the guests were having a bad day in general or if perhaps they are exceptionally "high maintenance" if you will. Who knows?

Maybe I would be less impressed by the York Harbor Inn if exceptional value, service, and experience were the sort of thing that my wife and I encountered everywhere we went. We have never been disappointed and we are always forlorn when it is time to go. We have reservations for Room 409 in early November which is probably not as nice as some of the other luxury level rooms but it is a sentimental favorite of ours. We are getting to the point where we are counting the days.

In closing, I recommend that you give this place a try. If you like it as much as we do then you will most certainly be back again and again. If there is something about your experience that falls short of your expectations then by all means let the front desk know about it immediately. I assure you that they will take your concern very seriously and do everything possible to take care of your reasonable request on the spot.

My wife and I are truly grateful for a place like the York Harbor Inn. We feel like it is our home by the sea.

Sincerely,

Forrest & Jeanne

We traveled to York harbor to pick up a new puppy. We stayed at one of York Harbor Inn's properties the Chapman Cottage, next door to the Harbor Crest, and had a wonderful first 2 nights in York Harbor. Our 3rd night, in the Harbor Crest was somewhat of a downgrade (not in price) but is York Harbor Inn's pet friendly property and we were excited about the convenience.

Harbor Crest is worn and dingy compared to the Chapman. it is sorely in need of a makeover. No pet friendly hotel should be carpeted throughout. The concierge should take lessons from the Chapman's inn keeper. Avoid serving near rotten strawberries for breakfast please.

If planning a visit to York Harbor, consider one of York Harbor Inn's other properties.

Thank you so much for your visit to the York Harbor Inn. We truly appreciate your kind words about our newest property- the Chapman Cottage. We are so pleased to offer Luxury accommodations in both this house and immediately next door in the 1730 Harbor Crest Inn.

The Harbor Crest Inn offers seven lovely guest rooms, most with Jacuzzi Tub and Fireplaces. The main level offers shared living rooms and indoor and outdoor porches. We chose to offer this house as our Pet Friendly accommodations 3 years ago with remarkable success. We are very proud of the décor and design of this grand house. Chapman Cottage has just opened this past August and is freshly decorated in a trendy, boutique style, while still maintaining its historic charm and elegance. Harbor Crest was opened and decorated late in 2005 and is designed in a traditional, historical style compared to Chapman Cottage. It is is very well kept and in excellent shape. Our continental breakfast offers an array of home-made muffins and pastries, as well as bagels and other toasted items, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt and fruit. We take pride in providing our guests with only the freshest of breakfast items and we truly apologize if the strawberries were not fresh at the time of your visit.

Thank you again for you input.
