Looked great from our hotel room. We enjoyed watching a couple of surfers brave the February water temps

“Shore and more”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

OK what is your thing? Beach, dinning, shopping, arcades?people watching, zoo, and music? It is here, strolling thru town, listening to music with the sound of ocean in background, and it is free! letting the kids play in playground with ocean view and it is free also, beaching it and just relaxing not a dime,so many things to do all within a short walk, just sitting on a bench and watching lobster boat and sailboats,it doesn`t get better, some nice restaurants and pizza for kids and a tradition you can start, ice cream at Golden Rod and watch the taffy being made, free and the smell is so good, sound good? I think it is, and if you hit it right,on the 4th fireworks at the beach, and a band playing patriotic music,perfect.....wishing you sunny days and moonlit nights

“Good for small children”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Compared to the beaches I go to at the Jersey Shore, this really isn't much of a beach. Very small.

However if you are traveling with small children, this has some positive factors that outweigh the beach area itself.

First, there is a sand playground, i.e. a full size playground with sand all over the ground. We went on a family vacation with our grandchildren, and my then 2 year 7 month old granddaughter loved coming to this playground, which we visited several times.

The town is right next to the beach, and there is a fun house there with games that my granddaughter also enjoyed (her then four month old baby brother was a bit too young for those games).

All of us enjoyed walking around town.

However, if you want a beach with a beautiful wide expanse of sand, go to Ogunquit, which is much like Spring Lake at the Jersey Shore.

“This Rare Seaside Gem Shouldn’t Be Missed!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

Short Sands is a .25-mile (0.4-km) stretch of sandy beach on Ocean Avenue. This is a great little strand despite its rockiness (or lack of sandiness) out closer to the water's edge around low tide. It’s tucked between the cliffs in the village of York Beach, and only 1.3 miles (2 km) from the iconic and world-renowned Cape Neddick Lighthouse. Town parking lots abut the beach – so be sure to feed their meters the coins they crave! During peak season, restrooms and outside showers are available and lifeguards patrol the sands. A promenade and a wonderful town park are nearby. They offer a gazebo, benches, and a bit of shaded shelter from Maine’s simmering summer sun. Within a short walk from the beach are a classic candlepin bowling alley, arcade amusements for all ages, gift shops, snack bars, and restaurants. Having arrived with a camera on a cool spring morning, I had this quirky and quaint seaside gem all to myself. Bring a camera when you come – at any time of year – and you’ll be pleased you did!

Short Sands Beach has been my favorite beach for about 65 years...with the Goldenrod, Surfside and a fun street of shops...but, the beach is spectacular. My email address even has Short Sands Beach in it...love it there.
