After a busy day in the York area, we visited Guac-n-Roll, a place we'd been to once before soon after it had opened. We had positive memories of it from last time, and were not disappointed this time around either, but it isn't perfect, and you shouldn't go in thinking it is.
The menu is a bit unusual for a Mexican place; you aren't getting your standard Americanized choices of "pick one of these standard fares and add rice and beans." You have a variety of sandwiches and burritos (served with chips and salsa), some salads, some nacho platters, and a few different tacos (just a taco, not served with anything). They also have chili, enchiladas, and fajitas, but we haven't tried those.
The black beans are smokey and tasty, and the overall quality of the food is high. The nacho platters are immense and old-school, loaded with goodies and able to satisfy a table of hungry diners. The burritos are big but nothing compared to the giant carbo-load platters you get at your standard places. The drink menu is a bit standard for a Mexican place, and I personally wouldn't mind a few more choices.
The service is friendly, but I wouldn't have minded a bit more attention -- drinks sat empty for longer than I'd expect. The atmosphere, though, is perfect. The artwork is funky and modern, yet still evokes the American southwest. The location is perfect, too -- finish your meal and walk over to the shops and beach.
Overall it was a funky little fun oasis from our surroundings, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in the York area for a couple days.
