My girlfriends and I take a fall trip each year and our Maine trip included a three day stay at the Cutty Sark. Our room was very clean, the view was fabulous and the staff were extremely nice. We were just talking about going back there for a long weekend, we enjoyed our first stay so much. I'd recommend this hotel to all who wanted a great place to stay on the maine coast.

We had a mini family reunion , bday party so had reserved 4 rooms for our family..The rooms were clean and the view was great! However, we were told we'd have a continental breakfast the next morning. Either the breakfast did not start until much later in am. or it never arrived. That was disappointing since we had to be somewhere for a music rehearsal and had to frantically find and purchase breakfast elsewhere. and ended up being late. We had checked at motel office but no one was in to help..us .We were unable to return our room keys to office and had to leave the rooms unlocked.. once we checked out.
We did not think 8 am was especially early to be wanting breakfast that was supposed to be provided.
One of the rooms had no shampoo provided. Another room had a broken heater/fan in bathroom. A diff. room had a somewhat inferior shower where only half of the water would get up to the shower..head. (Room 18) We realize this is OFF season, but should we have an OFF experience because of that?
No breakfast was the most disappointing though.

The only place directly on the ocean. We've been going to the Cutty Sark for years, winter and summer.

I love to visit in the summer to lie in the sun by the water and York is just a lovely little place.

We always try to get a lowerdeck room on the third floor, not the State rooms. Just a personal preference. I like my time at the beach to be simple. No AC is needed. The sea breeze is always present. The lawn literally meets the sand, so you can relax under the umbrella, lie in the sun and walk to the ocean within a minute. Wish I were there right now!

There are complimentary blueberry muffins and coffee, etc. in the summer. Always ver accomodating staff. Bring some favorite foods and beverages, pop a bottle of wine and have supper at one the many tables on the lawn as the sun sets, waves crashing just feet away. You like to look at the stars?? Incredible view.

Winter, the ocean is dark and menacing. Fantastic. We were the only people there last February, but the owner had the housekeeper drop by to give us towels and see if we needed anything. It's just a great little place to get away from it all, walk on the beach. No phones in the rooms. :) Spectacular views.

My wife and I in our late forty's stayed in the newer building on the third floor for the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd for our anniversary. Contradictory to the past reviews I have read, We found it to be very clean. The staff was very friendly, professional and helpful. The view was the best at the beach as all the other hotels, motels and b and b's are across the street and the view is obstructed by power poles, power lines and parked vehicles. The Cutty has two levels of manicured lawn with tables, chairs and lounges that overlook the beach. Great for sipping a glass of wine while beach watching. There are also footpaths that lead to the beach. (no alcohol allowed on the beach)
The only negatives I see were that the room was not equipped with a Hairdryer, Iron or Ironing board and no Internet .
However, I would definately book again there in the future.

The view is to die for. We fell asleep to the sound of the ocean... how can you beat that??? As others have stated, it wasn't the cleanest of rooms. I went to pick up a french fry that one of kids had dropped and it was covered in ants. But again, where can you stay RIGHT on the ocean? The view for outwieghed the cleanliness issue.

Have stayed at the Cutty Sark many times over the years – York Beach has been the family vacation spot for 50+ years. There are two buildings, one older – traditional “motel” style, and a newer, larger one side-by-side. Both have three floors, the older building with outside stairs and access to rooms, new building with enclosed stairs and hallways.
As in many other reviews – I agree the location is the key attraction. The Cutty Sark is the only choice of accommodations (short of a camping) directly on the ocean. The location is at the end of Long Sands Beach, on a grassy knoll, overlooking the water, rocks and beach on the corner of Route 1-A and the street to Nubble Light. All other near-by places have Route 1-A and a line of parked cars between your view and the beach.
In warm weather there are patio tables, umbrellas, chairs and lounges on the lawn – a nice place to enjoy the view. As far as the “hospitality center” – it’s in the basement of the older building, next to the laundry. There are soda vending machines and an ice machine. In the morning a complimentary breakfast is set up with coffee – reg & decaf, hot water for tea or hot chocolate and commercial, probably purchased frozen, donuts and muffins. Better than nothing, but not much of an offering. Seating is not available.
Over the years as the “new” building has aged, little has been done to maintain the freshness of the place. In the new building the rooms are larger than your typical chain motel, with a small table and 2 chairs in front of the large picture window with opening side windows. Bathrooms with tub are large. On each floor there is one corner room with a side window as well. Rooms come with a small refrigerator. Rooms on the ground floor are eye level with outside patio area. For those who like to keep the curtains open at night these rooms are probably not a good idea. The room rates increases the higher the floor, prices are up there – not a particularly good value with summer rates approaching $200 a night.
Recap - Basic accomodations with a great view.

My wife and I stayed in a newer stateroom for a weekend getaway. The view from the room is outstanding with the ocean right in front of you. This particular room was clean but did have a slight smell of being a smoker's room, although I believe the motel is now completely smoke free. The only other thing missing was a deck to sit on but it was not an issue in the middle of winter. I would definitly recommend the Cutty Sark staterooms if you are looking for a clean and quality stay on the long sands beach. It is not a big resort loaded with amenities but a comfortable place to stay and relax at after a long day touring around on the Maine coast. Front desk was nice as well.
