“Incredible waterfront views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2006

A great hotel with unbeatable views. Make sure you get a waterfront view with a porch. I probably shouldn't leak this secret, but rooms 407 and 307 in that order are the best rooms with the corner windows toward the ocean AND the frontside porch. I'd then go for
406,405,306,305 in that order, no corner but great views. I wouldn't bother with the corners that face town. If you want a cheaper room with an ocean view, but no porch go for 408 and 308 in that order. They sometimes have fall midweek specias for 20 percent off, not applicable to porch rooms though. Gorgeous view of the oceanfront New England style homes above the rocks. Nearby Nubble Light is one of the great lighthouses.

Good luck trying to get oceanfront Maine views at this price. You'll need it.

The Union Bluff is indicative of the current state of York Beach - trying its best to renew itself. I really don't have any overall complaints about the hotel - it was in good condition, the staff was very accomadating, and it looked like it was trying hard to update itself. The room we had was comfortable and clean. The view was poor - facing the back lot - but we knew that going in. The view out front is fantastic, and it really is a key point to the place, so make sure you get an ocean-view room when you book. Restaurant was good. Location is great if you want to be in York Beach, across from Short Sands Beach and the good-natured honky-town of the town.

The reason why I didn't give higher marks was the little things - cigaraette butts scattered all over the back entrance, a room with medicore lighting, smokers making the nice green area across the street from the hotel inhabitable (would have been nice to sit and watch the surf), a kitchen-vent blowing fumes over the back lot, not being able to keep the windows open, etc...

Good place, could be better.

My husband and I stayed at the Union Bluff Hotel from August 10-13, 2006. The hotel is located right on Short Sands Beach. We had a Jacuzzi Suite room. It was very nice. The Jacuzzi worked well and was very roomy. Our only slight complaint was that we paid extra for a Suite and it was basically a regular room with the fridge in the closet (odd). However, I had called to request an early check in and although we weren't able to get right in when we arrived we were able to check in early. The private parking was also a plus and the private lounge area outside over looking the ocean was great! Overall, this is definately a quality hotel, highly recommend and would stay at again.

This is a great place to stay for a family looking for a fun, relaxing beach vacation. The rooms are clean, nicely decorated and roomy. The hotel has two small restaurants with great service and great food. It's right on the ocean for beautiful views and walking distance to a nice beach. Short Sands is great (if a bit crowded) for littler kids -- the water is warmer and there are no waves. You can drive down to Long Sands Beach for more waves and smaller crowds. There are lots of little places to shop and eat within walking distance. Our favorite is the shave ice place on Beach Street. There's also a bowling alley and an arcade across the street and a movie theater down the block for something to do at night or on a rainy day. It's only a 20 minute drive to Porstmouth, NH with lots to do and see there, and 10 minutes to Kittery for outlet shopping. We spent 4 days here and then drove an hour and a half to Boston for the weekend. Would definitely stay here again!

We stay at The Union Bluff every January during Martin Luther King weekend. It has impeccable cleanliness, excellent service, great meals, a fabulous breakfast, and has a breathtaking view of the ocean. If there is a blizzard, everything is located right in the hotel: a top notch restaurant and a bar. What else would you want? If there is no blizzard, just get in your car and travel southern Maine. There is no traffic in the winter and there are no crowds either. A top recommendation!!!!!!

My boyfriend (now fiance) surprised me with a weekend at the Union Bluff for Valentine's Day. It was a lovely hotel, and the restaurant was fabulous - especially breakfast. The room was a bit small, but comfy (no view, but we didn't feel the need to pay extra for a view). The proximity to the beach makes this a fantastic place to go in the summer. Our only issue: the TV wasn't working when we checked in, but the staff did everything they could to fix it for us. They ended up just replacing the TV, but they did that immediately! Overall, a great experience; if you're looking for a hotel in York Beach, the Union Bluff is it!

I've been staying at the Union Bluff every summer for roughly the last 15 years. The rooms are well appointed, but what you are really treated to is the views. I highly recommend getting an ocean-front balcony room. The view is absolutely stunning. I've spent many, many hours just lounging on the deck furniture watching the waves crash. The food at the Bluff is also outstanding. I recommend that you get the Haddock in a brown bag...it's a must have when dining in the main dining room. The wait staff is also excellent. I've noticed that there is little turnover from year to year (as we've had the same waitress for at least the last 5-7 years). The location of the hotel is unsurpassed as Short Sands is at your doorstep and the bustling little town of York Beach is just a one-minute walk away. It is also an ideal location for families with young children as there is a very large arcade and candle-pin bowling alley right across the street. The York Zoo (or Playland...I can't recall) is just a short walk away as well. All in all, this is as good as it gets for a family vacation in ME. But beware...even in August, the water is COLD...but since you are in Maine, I guess that's to be expected.
