“Imagine a beach hotel in the gilded age but in the 21st century.”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

My wife and I had business in New Hampshire so we stayed in nearby York Beach for an overnight. We arrived at Union Bluff hotel and were more than pleased with everything. The facility was rebuilt after a fire some years ago, but on the original footprint and with the same architectural charm as the original hundred year old structure which gives the place character and old school resort feel but all the most modern amenities. My advice is to spend the extra few dollars and go for the beach view rooms with terrace or porch as the rooms are a bit small and the luxury of sitting outside enjoying the ocean breezes, overlooking the beach, is hard to top. The restaurant is excellent. The bar or tavern area as well, and the linen quality, bed comfort and cleanliness left us with plans for a future visit in August. Looking forward to a three night stay next time.

Stayed there for 5 nights after attending a wedding there last year. Our room overlooked the ocean, room was not overly large, but it had all the amenities such as nice television with many channels, plenty of hot water and water pressure, nice bedding, quality towels and plenty of them. The housekeeping staff did a great job and they work very hard. The hotel does command a very pricey rate, but their summer season is short and they are busy.
I did experience frustration with the internet, as my I-phone 5, was constantly being asked to sign in with their password throughout the whole stay.
The bar and dining room food, staff and service was excellent. We had drinks and apps in the bar area, had dinner there twice and had breakfast there a few mornings. All very good.
Our room overlooked the ocean and the views were great, plus minutes away from their downtown which had nightlife, shopping and many other restaurants.
A wonderful vacation destination!

I post factual and objective comments and I'll take a moment to bash Tripadvisor. I think many posts a fake or made up. And the only way to speak with someone from Tripadvisor is to email them as you can't even speak with someone. They call this site a blog, maybe they should try to verify these reviews! They say they have a zero tolerance policy for fake reviews, but they don't try to verify they at all!

We had been a patron of another large resort on long sands and were very dissatisfied last year. So we decided to go to union bluff this year! We were not disappointed! Very clean, updated linens, friendly, easy access to ocean! And the pub and grill were delicious!

Decided to book a room here when we normally stay in Kennebunkport, which is where we are getting married. We got our marriage license at the Kennebunk Town Hall, then went over to The Colony, which is where we are getting married. Later in the afternoon, we drove down the coast to Union Bluff Hotel in York, we had never stayed here. Our room was the center Queen with an ocean front view and it was gorgeous! All the staff members were really kind, and we got a great rate on the room because it was the last week before "seasonal" rates went into effect. We ate dinner at the Union Bluff Grill and it was amazing...the food was 5-star. We will definitely be going back after we get married :)

Room Tip: Rooms on the oceanfront are more expensive, but worth it!

We have mixed emotions about Union Bluff, The hotel has a fabulous view and helpful staff. Our room was small but very clean. We had an ocean view center room with a balcony and loved being able to sit out and enjoy the sounds of the ocean. The one area that drastically took away from the experience is the noise level in the rooms at night and early morning. Later in the night ,the front of the hotel is used as an "unofficial smoking and gossip area" for pub goers (midnight-ish) so expect to hear loud and savory conversations.
Our first morning waking up (around 7 am) was to the sound of a company collecting cases of empty bottles from the pub and the sounds of trucks. Considering we were given a list of "house rules" at the beginning of our stay, and one of those rules was in regards to keeping "respectful hours of 11 pm to 8 am". We understand recycling needs to be picked up, deliveries need to be made and people are going to be talking, but it would be nice if the hotel would also honor their "respectful hours".

Our second night stay, while still having pub goers out front at night below our balcony, the next morning was certainly much quieter.

We stayed during a busy weekend, so mid week and off season might be drastically different.
If you like a lively environment, or enjoy taking part in the pub downstairs this place would be wonderful for you. If you are looking to enjoy the ocean in a cute seaside hotel, this might not be someplace you would enjoy at least during a busy weekend.

While there we saw a grounds keeper that seemed so dedicated to his job, it was refreshing to see someone take pride in his work, be polite and helpful.

Room Tip: The Hotels, ocean view center rooms have a great view, the balconies are a nice size. But during pee...

The Union Bluff hotel was in a great location! We actually stayed the entire weekend as we had a wedding there. The hotel was very clean and the room had an incredible view of the Ocean. I was very impressed by the hotel being so clean because often times when you are so close to the beach, you get that beachy feel to it.
We had other friends that stayed in the joining hotels, that all said their rooms were just as clean and nice. Our hotel was in the Main building. Everyone we had encountered offered very good service, from guest services, housekeeping and even the valet service.
It was a plus when we asked if we could leave our car parked at the hotel and head to the beach, even though we had checked out.
Also, I love any hotel that offers a hydration station right in the lobby and complimentary coffee in the morning.
We really had a great stay! The wedding was also a great time!

Union Bluff Hotel has everything for the entire family. The staff is friendly & super helpful. The food in both restaurants is wonderful. Lighter fare in the Pub right across from the beach. Our deck overlooked the ocean and is a great place to sit out after dinner and with your morning coffee. The town is right there with small shops, the Goldenrod 's salt water taffy, the York Zoo and small amusement park . Located in a small bay where the surf is very gradual, great for small kids and directly across from the beach with a grassy area by the rocks if you don't want to go on the sand. Our 3rd year and we have reserved for a 4th!

Room Tip: Ocean front
