“Nice Hotel But...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2012

I enjoyed my stay. The hotel is very clean. I stayed in the annex and the only complaint I have is that it did not have internet access. I was told I could have gone to the lobby to connect to the internet but really would have liked to have it in my room.

My husband & I arrived here this past Sunday, and we are leaving tomorrow (Thurs.) and wish we could stay longer. As we're writing this review, we are listening and watching the waves on the beach. Our stay here, as in the past, has been a most pleasurable experience. We have stayed in the Annex, the Main Hotel (both ocean front & ocean view rooms), and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly & helpful, and they have always gone out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The food at the Pub, and the breakfast at the Union Grill is very good, and the prices are very reasonable. The views of the ocean, as well as the beach, are outstanding. The shops are all within walking distance, and the locals are very friendly. The park along the beach (Ellis Park) is well maintained, and has scheduled activities... looking forward to visiting again.

Room Tip: go online to website and review.

Our overall experience was great. The front desk women were all pleasant and accommodating. Our room -305, had a good view of the ocean and was very clean .Only downfall was that our room was small and only 1 sitting chair . The buildings and grounds were well cared for. The restaurant was beautifully decorated . We had a pkg deal with dinners/ breakfast. Each meal was 5* in taste and presentation of . Our morning breakfasts' were exceptional as well, and our waitress-Betty, was most attentive and sweet .
Was perfect going before the very busy season. Loved it there.

Have stayed at the Union Bluff previously, always in the main building. This time, thought
to try Annex.
My first uneasy feeling came when the online reservation system didn't spit back a
confirmation number. So I contacted the hotel, and the booking clerk advised me that
the online system didn't always work! Happily, was able to complete reservation by
phone. And that should have been the end of the story, BUT! on the morning of my
departure from home..literally packed and heading out the door..I get a phone call
from the Union Bluff, saying that I was expected on the previous night! Apparently,
there was a snafu in the clerk's entry, leading the Bluff to believe that I was a no-show.
The Annex is a multi-level building, and probably not the easiest of of access if one has
small children or lots of luggage. The rooms are modestly sized, Euro-chic to the point
of sterility. There is no tiny coffee-maker,and no mini-fridge. The rooms could benefit
from the addition of both, as well as a comfortable chair. Bathroom was appointed with
very good towels, but water pressure was so-so, showering was like a gentle, lukewarm
sprinkle. The lights on the common decks of the Annex appear to stay on for the better
part of the night, and can be seen under the curtain of the sliding door that is the only
entrance in and out of the room. If the weather is good, and one is inclined to sit outside
on the deck, be mindful that your fellow travellers will be walking by you in their Speedos
during busy season. Ice and vending machine located on the first level of the building,
and if the vending machine is not operational, like it was during my visit, one gets to
take a hike over to the third floor of the hotel for a soft drink.
After a fitful night's sleep on a very hard mattress, with the intention of being on "snooze"
for another 1/2 hour, there was the clatter of heavy machinery outside of the building..
this was about 7:45AM...lo and behold..a crew with a cherry picker power washing the
back side of the Annex! That was it for me! Showered, dressed and out in <40".
On the plus side, the Annex is clean and the heat worked well. But if one is looking for
a bit more comfort in amenities, this might not be the best choice for you

Room Tip: The main building has more 'traditional rooms'. Don't pick the Annex if you need more...

I have stayed here at the Union Bluff a few times. I think I drove the staff crazy with accommodation changes and a whole lot more. Not once did they show anything but polite hospitality! Even at check out..Receptionist went to get me a coffee to go when she overheard I wanted a coffee. Clean and the pub is excellent too.

This is quickly becoming our favorite spot. From check in to check out, the perfect place to stay and enjoy the coast of Maine. Coming in the off season has the benefit of a more quiet location, but that quickly changes as the summer crowd arrives. Wonderful meals with an unusual drink selection at the pub.

I would not recommend anyone stay at this MOTEL,so called hotel, the staff are rude you ask for another set of towels and they act like how dare you talk to me. I complained to the owners and they told me" you dont like it too bad don't stay here".I personally believe the whole place is a front to launder drug money being that there is some unsavoring looking characters in and around the front desk and bar.

Room Tip: Don't stay there
