“Destination Ice Cream”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2010

Absolutely the best ice cream in New England. Every summer we return to York and have to have an ice cream at Brown's. My husband loves the Indian Pudding flavor. The servings are huge, so be careful what you ask for!

“Phenomenally good ice cream and huge portions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2010

I ordered a small concoction of peanut butter cups and caramel and was surprised to find myself with a three scoop ice cream cone.

The ice cream was delicious and plan on coming back here every time we visit my in-laws.

“When in York, you've got to check it out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2010

Just east of the Nubble Lighthouse and Fox's Lobster House, sits this dimunitive, unassuming ice cream shop. From the road in front and their parking lot, you have a view of the Atlantic and several beautiful seaside homes. You go down the backside of the hill to get to Brown's, where you can't see anything. BUt the ice cream is very good indeed and the evening we were there, the entire place was absolutely spotless.

Nestled in a residential area, as tourist you don't expect it to be there. When you stop, consider ordering a kid size as the two of us shared on of those and were well satisfied.

“This place is a York institution.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2009

You can't go to Nubble light house without getting homemade Brown's Ice Cream. It's delicious and it's been there forever. My mom used to get it as a kid. They still have Checkerberry which was the flavor she would get. I like Blueberry. Get a tot size, because even that is huge! I attached a picture. We had to take half (or more than half probably) of the ice cream off the cones for the kids and put it in a bowl. Even after that their cones were still big!
