“Best ice cream in Maine!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

You have seen the rave reviews, and they are all true. Go there any day of the week at almost anytime of day and you will see the crowds of people lined up for the delicious, generous helpings of so many favors of ice cream. We never go to York Beach without at least one trip to Brown's - sometimes several trips!

“Oh so GOOD to be so bad!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

I walk a mile or two (mostly uphill) to go get this luscious Icecream establishment. They have the richest, creamiest, tasty icream and way too many to choose from. Be prepared to wait but know it is worth it! My only suggestion for alittle more ease would be for them to put a board on the sides of their building to describe their ice creams.

“A York Beach Institution”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

Fantastic home-made (or hand-made) hard ice-cream. Perfect compliment to a warm summer evening on the Maine Coast. However, the price is high for compared to other local establishments. Within walking distance to the "Nubble" lighthouse.

“no view, long lines, decent ice cream”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

Some of my family and friends swear by this place. I am not among them.

The lines here can be forever at peak times of the evening, with the parking lot overflowing in the high season (they recently added a satellite lot). Although you are near the Nubble light house, you have absolutely no view of the ocean, and can sit at some basic picnic tables on a gravel lot. Note that it can be rather buggy here after dark.

Although the ice cream is fine and the choices of flavors are nicely varied, it is by no means (this is an ex-upstate NYer who currently resides in the dairy mecca of Wisconsin speaking) anywhere near the top echelon of "home-made" hard ice cream. Graeters ice cream fans from the Cincinnati area would probably find this stuff to be generic in flavor and rather boring, for example.

Prices this year are what you'd expect in a tourist area: kiddie size $3.75 and regular cones/dishes are $4.50 a pop. It's cheaper than their sister ice cream stand closer to the Nubble at Fox's.
