Something magical about this spot. You won't be disappointed. The scene, the sounds, the smell. Perfect picture taking spot. Don't forget to hit up the amazing ice cream place nearby.

I knew there were no inside tours of the light house so I was not disappointed, but it would be great if some day it was open. Great place for a photo op. I will say this, it is much windier here than a few miles in. Take that into consideration when planning your visit. We went in early April and it was warm where we started from and were shocked at how cool it felt when the wind hit us. We only stayed outside for a few minutes because my ears were freezing. There is a gift shop across the parking lot with bathrooms, unfortunately that wasn't open for the season yet.

After having seen photos of the Maine lighthouses, this was well worth the trip. Great photo opportunities, a little chilly in March and April, but still a great experience.

Stay at York Beach at one of the family-owned motels, eat at the local restaurants, and be sure to visit this lovely, quaint lighthouse that is sure to please. Take your time, though, and do not rush. There is much to see in the area. Parking lot at the lighthouse is busy, so be careful. The scenery and surroundings are superior for art classes to visit. Recently, cement benches were installed on the rocks, but these detract from the scenery and collect bird droppings. Look before you sit. Tide-pooling at Short Sands and Long Sands is fun for the family. Learn the history of the settlement of York, to make it a well-rounded experience. Businesses and residents appreciate trash in receptacles to keep the rocks pristine. Pack in - pack out. This is a quiet, humble, and fuss-free area of the nation, so bring plenty of respect, thank you's, and appreciate the unique quality of the New England coastline.

In the late morning on a mid-autumn day I visited the Nubble to take some photographs, just as thousands of other tourists do each year. The lighthouse stands high on a rocky island across a narrow strait from a paved parking lot. It's a beautiful sight at any time of day and in any season. Bring a camera! The lighthouse is inaccessible by land. From a distance, on its landward side, the white-painted lighthouse and its red-painted shed look in good condition, if a bit disused. By the parking lot are stone memorial benches for those who prefer to sit in the sea breeze. In the off-season I didn't see bathroom facilities, but I'd suppose they're available in-season. The lack of rest facilities was only a minor drawback from an otherwise gorgeous vista.
