We came for a late lunch. The interior is very pleasant, with big windows overlooking a small river, and a comfortable sitting area around the bar. But the expensive food was disappointing. The small calamari was overpowered by the breading and the sauce; I couldn't taste the calamari. The filets were covered with a sauce that spoiled the taste of the meat for both of us, and the green beans were undercooked. I liked the ambience and the waitress was good. So was the apricot sour, which a lot of bars do badly. But for almost $100, we should have been more satisfied.

The Muddy Rudder is part of our family tradition. We drive 12 hours from Pittsburgh, go directly to the Muddy Rudder for dinner, and then off to L.L. Bean to feast on their offerings. Been doing this more than once a year since 1986. We've watched the Muddy Rudder improve their physical facilities and it is now a much larger restaurant, nicely done inside. The Muddy Rudder always and reliably provides our first Maine lobster dinner every trip. It isn't world class dining and I'm not sure if I lived locally that I would select it for dinner very often, but if fulfills its role in our family ritual year after year. There are soft spots in service and the menu, but that's not unusual during the summer at Maine restaurants because they have so many seasonal employees and the demand is so high. This time the hotel where we had a reservation messed it up and made it for the following night, so while we ate we were looking for a hotel on one of the busiest weekends of the summer. At least two employees, including the evening manager, were also engaged in making phone calls to try to find us a room - a real service since the restaurant was also coming off a busy evening. We will continue our family tradition for as many more years as a I draw breath. Diners should be alerted to one thing. The outdoor dining looks very attractive because of the sea marsh view and water fowl, but the traffic noise from Route 1 overcomes this attractiveness. We returned inside to dine to the strains of classical music, which was much more pleasant and we took a table at the window so we had the best of the view and the ambience.

From the name I never expected the pleasant decor we found inside. Overlooking the river...muddy at low tide...we enjoyed nice wines and local Cold River Vodka. Great bar with local young men, waiters were nice and knowledgeable about the area, but keyed into service. Food was good, would eat there again if in the area.

We had the lobster flat bread which was delicious, also the Haddock sandwich... Yummy!
I recommend the coleslaw as a side & the sweet potato fries. A good wine selection, nice view of the Cousins River.

We always look forward to stopping in at the Muddy Rudder when we pass through
Yarmouth. Pleasant seating inside or seats with a view of the wetlands outside. Service is attentive. At lunch, chowder was excellent and Haddock was fine. Scallops very good. We always stop by for at least one meal at the Rudder when we are in the area and will continue to do so.
