upon arrival we ( 4 top) were greeted nicely and promptly seated at a casually appointed high top, nice! The waiter was friendly but with the right sense of service. The beer list was a bit short but all quality, including the PBR pounder. The menu was again shorter than i expected and there was a bit of overlap on selections. I was impressed with my selection of short rib, the cut was properly cooked and had wonderful flavor. The rest of my dish had a heavy salt flavor. The 3 other diners at our table had burgers. The menu description of these selections were mouthwatering however they did not deliver. The diner who ordered the grass fed house ground beef burger with bacon and cheddar commented that, they had never had to use so much ketchup on a burger, something this diner usually wouldnt do. The other diners ordered the black bean and quinoa burger, this one even peaked my interest. The burgers came out, one over cooked and the other undercooked. Both burgers were mushy and again flavorless. The chances of a return visit from our party is slim, the great atmosphere and service cant make up for a short menu and simple dishes lacking flavor.

We were so pleased to have the opportunity to try out Gather last night for my daughter's rehearsal dinner. Wow, the food was delicious. We especially loved the crab corn fritters and the pizza. And the tomato flavor in the tomato shrimp bisque was delightfully intense and flavorful. The feeling of the room was wonderfully community oriented - so tastefully decorated with just enough casual artefacts to remind us where we are (Maine!). The use of local foods is terrific and also something quite important to us. Fresh, fresh, fresh!

A big room, with a long table down the center for large groups or people who would like to make new friends. Great burgers, both grass-fed beef and veg. Well chosen and attractively priced wines by the bottle, and a good selection of beers from local breweries. No reservations except for larger groups, but a nice bar while you wait. Have some corn and crab fritters to keep you going.
There's pizza, a few heavier entrees, friendly service, a kitchen open to view, and a mostly young, energetic crowd--at least by Maine standards. All in all, a great addition to the area just north of Portland , good enough to compete with the popular in-town choices.

We have recently moved to Yarmouth, predominantly because it was close to Portland and its wonderful restaurants and other activities. We had the opportunity to eat at Gather twice this week, once as a couple and again with our son and grandchildren, and we feel it's fully as good as many of Portland's better restaurants.

So long as you do not expect hard liquor, the wine lists are limited but very good and reasonable (by the bottle) , and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Our son, who is a beer enthusiast, was very impressed by the list of beers, many of which are local. The wait for a table was minimal both nights, even for five of us on a Saturday night. It's hard to understand how they do that because Gather was crowded both of the nights we were there.

We loved the salmon special, the crab and corn fritters, the pickled eggs, veggie burger, the fried brussel sprouts, in fact nearly all the food we tried both nights. The pizzas with sausage and goat cheese were fabulous; the barbecue chicken pizza was dubbed a bit bland.

Our grandchildren didn't like the mac and cheese, which I thought was fine. Too many crumbs for them. Perhaps a crumbless version for young children?

All in all, we loved the restaurant, will go back often and will be accompanied by our son whenever he's in town. They will be serving brunch in March, and we will try that too.

Our only concern is whether the crowds, which are bound to increase as the weather gets warmer in the spring and summer, will eventually make the wait for a table too onerous to be worth it. At the moment that is not the case--I'd wait happily the 15 to 30 minutes we waited for a dinner of that caliber. If Tripadvisor had a 4 1/2 star rating, I'd give it to Gather.

Suggestion: If there is going to be a wait for dinner, make sure there's enough room at the bar so prospective diners can wait happily with a glass of wine or beer. Our experience would have been very different if we'd had to wait in the cloakroom with no wine in hand.
