Le Garage has a great atmosphere of old New England and wonderful views of the harbor. Casual attire or dressed up. There is a pub downstairs which we checked out but went for the more formal dining. Service was very good, as the waiter was timely, but not annoying. The food was excellent. I had prime rib, and my spouse had salmon. Portions were the right amount. They are slightly pricey, but reasonable considering the quality of the food and the attention to detail. We will go back another time.

My wife and I go to Le Garage at least once a month and often more than that. It's a long way from home, but it is consistently creative, attractive, and friendly. I love the Maine Shrimp Casear Salad and a Sazerac. The Finnan Haddie is excellent and so is the ratatouille. They have local ales, too, but the wine list is uninspired.
This is not the Ritz. It is not overpriced. It is a nice place to relax before the long drive home, to get quality food and very creative cuisine - each week has a theme and related specials, like blueberry week or Scotch week or Haddock week. They don't have the finest chefs from NYC, and that's OK because you don't pay for them either. It's a whole package that suits these two MA road-trippers very well indeed.

The kind of place your ex-hippie, now independently wealthy, eccentric great aunt would pick if you wanted to stop for lunch on the Maine mid-coast... kind of a has-been, resting on former laurels, god-awful carpet (actually looks dirty) and tablecloths... if you're going to do 70's chic, then you need to get with the chic and not just stop at the '70's. Decent chicken salad and coleslaw, good chowders. Expensive for larger lunch plates. I can't complain, on the whole, but it certainly is overrated. If you want to compare with a superlative dining experience for similar bill, check out Duckfat in Portland, Cleonice in Ellsworth, or Table Farmhouse Bistro in Blue Hill.

My husband and I like to eat here every once in a while and while it is a little fancier then we are use to the food is always really good. we usually eat down stairs at la bar which has an excellent atmosphere, the bar tenders are always very nice and talkative but not too talkative or too attentive. I highly suggest the finnan haddie, and the stuffed mushrooms. it's also a good place to get lazy lobster, which is a nice treat when you don't feel like spending the time working on the shell and making a mess in your own house. The view is also nice if you can get a seat by the windows
