“Consistent excellence”

Our favorite restaurant on the Maine shores, Le Garage is modest in appearance and fabulous with both the view and the food. It faces the south shore, just east of the main road. Do stop and enjoy it. The service is easy without being slow, and if you're lucky, you can sit at the windows and enjoy the fabulous river views. The food is more upscale than nearby joints, and we enjoyed both large salads and one-of-a-kind paella, made with fresh seafood of course but also fresh vegetables like baby string beans. After eating, you can walk over and down the wharf...

“Close to perfection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

We decided to have a drink at Le Garage while we wait for the Red Eats line to die down. The service was so good, and the downstairs bar was so comfortable that we decided to stay. Phil was bartending, and is very interesting with a lot of local knowledge. The prices were much more reasonable than we expected, and we had the best meal we've had in Maine. Their french onion soup is incredible. The homemade pie was delicious and made by one of the servers. The blueberry venison sausage bruschetta melted in our mouths, and had a great kick of blueberry, which Maine is known for.

On our way out we met the owner, Cheryl. She was warm, interesting, and took time to chat with us about life and the history of the restaurant. She was a delight and we were sad to say Goodbye. Le Garage will be our first stop when we return to Maine!

“Great lunch and harbor view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

The docents at the Castle Tucker recommended this restaurant to us after our tour as a good place for good food and a view of the Sheepscot River. My wife and I each had the crabcake burger, followed with key lime pie and honey rhubarb pies. A bit pricey, perhaps, but we didn't have the long lines to wait to be seated and the water view was relaxing.

“Fire the hostess”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here several weeks ago. We decided to take our son and his wife on Sunday for lunch before their long ride home. The seating at the window was wonderful, but a cold air vent forced us to ask to be moved to the next empty table. One of the wait staff agreed we could move. Now here's the problem. Nothing happened. No service. A party was seated at our "old" table and were immediately served. When I flagged the hostess, she seemed perturbed we had moved, and explained thats why we didn't have a waiter assigned. Still nothing happened. We actually began to vacate the place when a server did arrive. What a rediculous arrangement. It did put a damper on what otherwise was once again, and enjoyable meal. The food is quite good here. When we left, the hostess was once again parked at the chair next to the front door. How hard would it have been to apologize for the drafty table and follow up making sure our table was assigned a waiter. It will be a while before you can get me to spend money here again. Too bad, because we all enjoy alcohol with our meals and I believe it is a money maker for restaurants. Get the right people to work for you, and the rest is easy.

“Midcoast Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014

Le Garage in Wiscasset is not to be missed. It offers elegant charm with a scenic river setting. The menu is varied and a step up from the usual coastal seafood tourist traps. When the rolls and chowder arrived hot, we knew we were in for a treat. Our entrees of parmesan crusted haddock and crab cakes were delicious. Our waitress saw to our every need. Both prices and servings sizes were very reasonable. We left thrilled at having discovered such a great spot after our many trips up and down the Maine coast over the years. Needless to say, we will be back.
