The Village Tavern is new (December, 2012), but is has clearly won the hearts of the locals. Weekend nights are very crowded, and very deservedly so. We were there twice, and had two fantastic meals. Service was excellent, and the food was superb. Sadly, when the tourist season rolls around, this place will be impossible to get into. They have noticed the sound issue, and they are putting in a new ceiling (March 20th) that will hopefully help out. It has jumped to our favorite place in the area.

Most of my friends really like this place. A few people said it was too noisy. For me, it was beyond noisy. You couldn't hear your companion across the table. In addition, the food was overcooked--from the salmon to the chicken to the pasta. The burger, though, was nicely rare as asked. I did like the potato pancakes. The wait between the appetizers and the mains was forever. We were there over 2.5 hours. The place is pretty but needs soundproofing. I didn't think the size of the main was worth the money. We were hungry when we left, and we are skinny people! Also, they don't take reservations :( I want to support local restaurants, but this place needs work. On the optimistic side, it is pretty new. Maybe they just need time to work out the kinks.

I've been to VT several times since it's opened, as a small group, as a family and as half of a couple. The food has always been excellent! Each time I/ we try something different from the menu and each time the food has not disappointed.

It doesn't get an overall Excellent rating from me for a few reasons:
1) waitstaff isn't consistently friendly or efficient about revealing specials, with prices
2) reservations are not accepted. If there were a larger bar area to sit at and wait and enjoy a drink OR a place to sit and wait up to an hour without drinking (right now you must uncomfortably stand next to people who are dining), the "no reservations" policy would be OK. This is a place that is in dire need of accepting reservations--please rethink your policy!!

I already know that like many "locals", I will not attempt to have dinner here during tourist season. Folks from the campgrounds nearby and people tired of the Dock Square restaurants will flock to VT and crowd us year-rounders out.

We've been to the VT a couple of times after being excited about a new local restaurant that remained open in the winter months. One visit was at the weekend when it was busy but the wait was still less than 15 minutes, the other was midweek and we were seated straight away.

The menu was less adventurous that the chef's proclaimed pedigree led us to expect and failed to fill a niche that Kennebunk sorely needs. Everything was well prepared but presentation made it look nothing special. Our overall impression was this was high-end bar food that was appropriately priced.

The clientele seemed older (50s and up). Service was polite and prompt. Interior decor of the dining area lacks imagination although the bar area is beautifully done with reclaimed wooden furnishing. An open kitchen allows you to view your meal being prepared - and the number of plastic tubs your meal is coming from.

Overall, it was a good meal, but fell short of hitting the excellent mark.
