“You know what you are getting - our second time here.”
Reviewed July 25, 2010

We decided on a last minute getaway to the Ogunquit area. I've been going to Maine for over 20 years so I know what to expect from many of the motels/hotels in the area. They may look nice on the outside but Beware. This is why I knew what I was getting when booking the Hampton Inn in Wells. First off, the location is not on the water but it is an easy 5-10 minutes to the beaches. Our favorite is Ogunquit Beach. We were quite surprised to find that beach parking is now $25 a day. There are other parking options that are cheaper if you don't mind walking a bit farther or just take the Trolley.

I had booked a queen suite for four people. When I arrived, we were put in a corner King suite and provided with a cot. There was also a sofa bed. We were also given the option to switch to another room the next day. This room was huge and worked out better for our family. It was the size of two hotel rooms. One room had the king bed and bath and the second room came with a living room area & kitchenette. It had two TVs and lots of storage. We probably could have fit 5 cots in that room and still had plenty of room to move around. It was huge. It also had two zone air-conditioning. We like it colder, the kids warmer.

It's not a 4 star hotel so we did encounter a few problems but nothing that was not easily fixable by the attentive staff.

Good points - free breakfast (it's not gourmet but you should be able to find something); free cookies at night; coffee offered throughout the day (nice to grab after returning from dinner). They have a pool & whirlpool. Parking is free and easy to find even when the hotel is full.. The beds weren't bad and the towels were nice quality. Housekeeping is good. There is an internet center. Hotel is accessible to everything - CVS, food store across the street, good restaurants, beaches. Trolley stop out front. For the most part quiet.

Bad points - very expensive in Summer; showing a little wear and tear in the rooms. We encountered a few maintenance issues with the room.

Overall the good outweigh the bad. If you are familiar with Hampton Inns then you'll know what to expect. I wish I could find a 4 or 5 star hotel in the area. This is the closest I've found for our family. It's a good, safe choice in the area.

The hotel is just 4 yrs old and is dire need of upkeep. All exterior room doors have dirt marks up the lower halfs. Our entry area of the room had marks & scrapes on wall and a carpet that had lost the pattern due to being worn out.
Noise level is bad - you think you're in the parking lot when people set their car alarms via the horns.(We were on 3rd floor) Room doors close fast & hard- anywhere on floor. ^The booming sound & vibration will wake you from a sound sleep. When the kids run the halls, you get the noise & the vibration as well. Lousy night sleep here. Save your $$ -way overpriced for what you get. Not up to the Hampton statndard at all. Breakfast o.k. with usual menu- personnel friendly.

excellent service at check in, room are spacious and spotless the breakfast was tasty with a great variety of hot and cold choices if there was any negative comments i would have to say i contacted the front desk late the first night of are stay requested some additional linens but they never arrived . To summarize we had a great stay and would definitely return.,Although for the price i feel a refrigerator should be standard in all rooms.

We drove many, many hours from NJ to Maine and it was late at night and we were exhausted. After checking into a Comfort Inn in Haverhill, MA earlier, only to check right back out due to the disgusting condition of the place, we were so happy to find this hotel. We've stayed at many Hampton Inns up and down the east coast, and this one was, by far, one of the absolute nicest. It was on the expensive side, for sure, as many other reviewers said, but being that it was late at night and our exhaustion level, we were willing to pay. This place is really clean, quiet and has a nice indoor pool and hot tub. The kids really enjoyed that! Nice breakfast in the morning with a nice breakfast room. They even have a small store behind the front desk were you can buy food, things to heat up in your room microwave, toiletries, etc.

I would definitely recommend this hotel!

We stayed at Hampton Inn Wells, Maine for one night and found it outstanding. Great overall appearance, "better" furnishings in the common areas and room, very good and complete buffet breakfast, nice pool and fitness center, very clean room and bedding. We were impressed and thought the April off-season price was reasonable.

We usually love staying at Hampton Inns and we pulled into this one to inquire about a 2-night stay. Now mind you, this was off-season, AFTER Columbus Day weekend/foliage and in the middle of the week to boot. Price for a standard non-smoking room was $149 plus tax. No AARP discount, no AAA discount, .....take it or leave it.(parking lot was mostly empty this time of year) We left it and went down the road and got a one bedroom condo at the Elmwood for $89.. I wonder what their in-season rates are? $300 a night???
