Visited the Maine Diner in late October, mostly because it had been featured on 'Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.' While it was good, I don't quite understand why it gets so many five-star reviews.
We were lucky to be seated very quickly, as my Dad uses a walker and there is really no place warm indoors to wait in the colder weather. I would hesitate to return there if anyone in my party had limited mobility, as the walkways tend to be narrow, and some of the seating is in a section where there is no ramp.
The food was good, and there certainly was a lot of it. My wife enjoyed the prize-winning seafood chowder very much. I opted for the clam-o-rama, which included clam chowder (good, but I've had better), belly clams (first time I've tried these, but I'm now a fan), clam strips (very good), and a clam cake (not particularly memorable, at least compared with the other clam items. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and no one had room for dessert!
The decor is very basic and the place could use a serous sprucing up. Service was prompt and attentive.
the food was good enough that I'd like to give the Main Diner another try.
