“Old school camping- not for everyone but we will go back!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2010

This campground is by far the cheapest in the area, a family of four can pitch a tent for $25.00 and in this area that is hard to beat. The new pool is not huge but very clean with a lovely view down to the marsh with the ocean in the distance. Lots of chairs by the pool.

Unlike the previous reviewer we had no lack of hotwater and at 25 cents for a six minute shower I can't complain. A few hooks for clothing in the shower area might have been helpful but we figured it out.

The office sold amazing oranges for 50 cents each, cold bottled water for the same price and had a few other essential offerings that all seemed reasonable. Firewood was $5.00 for a bundle that did us for two evenings.

The trolley stop in front of the campground indeed goes north before turning around and heading towards the beach. If you don't want to do the circle trip you can walk about 3-4 minutes up to route one and catch the southbound trolley. It costs $1 for and adult to ride and free for kids under 18. Seems a bargain to me even if you decide to ride north first. We choose to ride our bikes to Wells beach, that took 12 minutes there and about 15 back because of the uphill. Not a dedicated bike lane but we felt safe none-the-less.

For those travelling with small tents and a small vehicule they offer some new sites not listed on the web-site. We stayed on T20 and were happy with it but any in the new loop seemed fine.

If you are looking for a busy campground with lots of activities and super clean and organized this is not the place for you. However, if you want old-fashioned cheap camping not far from the ocean with a friendly attitude this might be the place. Just remember this is the cheapest camping in the area.

Of course the walking distance to the Fisherman's catch restaurant made it special. Waited 1.5 hours for a table but well worth it!

Good location but apparently they don't clean the cabins very often. There were six of us so we rented two cabins. Ours was ok but the other cabin appeared not to have been cleaned between occupants. There were candy wrappers on the floor, dorito crumbs in the bed, and mouse droppings all over the utensils in the under-sink cabinet. It looked as though there had been a mouse in our cabinet too. The campsites were crammed in tight so it was hard for our tent camping neighbor and ourselves to park. Not to mention they run out of hot water on a regular basis. I rarely if ever write bad reviews and the other stuff was bearable but the lack of cleanliness was a real turnoff. I doubt we'll stay there again.

This is a very basic campground. Camp sites are very small and very close to each other. Firepits and utilities are located ackwardly in the site. electric was very far forward in the site and the water was located in the very back of the site. Dump station is very hard to get to regardless of the type of camper you have. If you have a larger pulled camper you will never be able to dump there. RV's will have to go down street turn around and head back in to the campground. Pool was the only plus. We like the beach and this campground is no where near it. You can see the marsh from the pool though. I guess thats what them mean be oceanview. If you have an RV and want to get anywhere without a car you can take the very unreliable trolley. It does meet you just outside the park but head north bound to Kennebunk and then turns south bound to the beach. If you happen to get a good trolley driver they will tell you that if not you have to ask to get off at the next north bound spot, cross the street and head south to the beach. This is not a campground for those who like activites go on around them. You will have to go to Sea Veiw campgrounds for that. This campground will due in a pinch. The best part about it was that it was walking distance to Fishermans Catch Resturant and that has outstanding food and great service.
