The units were large but had problems from the start. The first unit they gave us had a hall and stairs that were dirty and smelled terrible. The first 2 bedroom unit we were put in had lots of carpet stains, smelled of mold and dirt. The linens had stains on them. The furniture was old and worn looking. Staff gave us another unit when we asked. This second 2 bedroom unit was much better, still the shower was not cleaned, I cleaned it. The toilet paper was sitting on top of the holder and took maintenance with a key to install it. There were multiple light bulbs out, maintenance again. He was very helpful. Only two deck chairs, maintenance again. The view was tremendous. Not enough lights in the 2nd bedroom. This complex was apparently a good complex but the existing company is not putting the money into it to keeping it up properly. All units are not the same and some need updating. They are short staffed and have only minimal maintenance help that can not begin to keep up with the demand of maintaining this large complex. Staff did adjust our bill for the inconveniences.

We've visited Maine yearly and we finally came to Village by the Sea four years ago and have been going there ever since. The staff is excellent and always helpful when needed. I cannot say enough good about this complex. This year we will be staying there on three different occasions, now that we've retired.

Just came back from a weekend stay. Got a top flr suite for $105 per day-this was a great value for a surprisingly large suite w/a great balcony view off the bedroom as well as out of the LR window, plus a sun roof window,VCR,TV's in LR &BR,dishwasher,washer&dryer-WOW! It was super clean, well-maintained-furnishings were stylish& comfortable.
I've read each suite is different-that's very appealing. Only drawbacks 1)the game room & indoor pool areas-both housed in one separate building were a bit unkept &dingy 2) there was no written material on facilities, regs, services in the suite-you had to guess or ask the front desk 3) no DO NOT DISTURB tags I could put on the door- as a result it was annoying having to respond to the daily maid service knocking or trying to get in -they were a bit intrusive. Other than these, I'd definitely come back.

Friends of ours go to Village by the Sea every year and always tell us how much they love it, so we decided to try it out.We LOVED IT!! The suites are beautiful and huge. The kids had their own bedroom and bathroom. It had a well stocked kitchen, so we didn't have to go out for meals all the time, we could cook in.Kids spent alot of time in the game room and indoor pool. They loved it too.We plan on coming back every year and highly recommend this hotel.

Its a great place for a family to stay. Washer and dryer a big plus.
Some units definitely nicer than others. The outdoor pool is very cold and really cannot be enjoyed. The pool needs to be HEATED. Most other outdoor pools in the area are heated.

We have been to Village by the Sea for the past 5 years and we love it more every time. All of the staff is above and beyond nice. They always make us feel at home.
Since all the rooms are different, we have picked out our favorites and the front desk has no problem granting our requests when we call.
The suites are wonderful, equipped with everything that you need. The hotel sits right on a Salt Marsh and the view from the upper floors is to die for. Can't miss that sunrise!!
Would highly recommend to anyone!
P.S....we have also had a couple of reunions in their Conference Center. They have a BEAUTIFUL Ballroom. A must if you are considering a function or wedding on the coast of Maine.

Stayed at Village by the Sea in October 2002. We love the area (right in between Ogunquit and Kennebunkport). We were staying at a nearby hotel and noticed Village by the Sea while driving by so we decided to check it out. We stopped in at the desk and asked if we could take a look at a couple of suites. They informed us that they were all individually owned and decorated so they would all be a little different. We absolutely fell in love with the place! We were blown away by the size of the suites, all with full kitchens, dining rooms, balconies etc... we decided to stay a couple of nights to get a taste of it since we usually stay a week in that area in the summer (we travel with another couple and this is perfect because we can share a 2 bedroom suite and there is still plenty of room). All I can say is that we found a new favorite place. We already booked a week stay in Summer 2003 and look forward to returning every year. We've already referred many friends and family there.
