On our way north we stopped for blueberry pie and coffee - what else? We sat at the counter and had delicious blueberry pie with flakey crust - to die for. A fun, delicious stop!

On our last trip to Maine for the Labor Day weekend, we decided to go to the movies in Thomaston, ME. On the way back to our hotel we saw the Moody Diner and decided to drop in for a late night snack! Having been there before we knew that the food would be plentiful and good. I decided Breakfast (which is available all day) was just what I needed. My boyfriend had the sausage with cheese and hash. Everything was delicious and hit the spot. For desert, yes we had desert after all that. Just one look at the pie case will let you know you will not be walking out of there with one a piece of pie. Mine was chocolate cream, he had blueberry both excellent....perfect ending to a comfort meal.

It's for the pies alone that I recommend Moody's. It's not that they don't also dish up a fine diner breakfast. They do. But the pies are really worth noting. In winter, they will bake one for you for pick up, but order ahead because out of season pies are frozen. In season, they usually have them available, but better still to order a day ahead and be sure.

As for the food, it's all fried or dredged in butter. That's nice, of course. I mean, it's a diner and that's maybe what you go there for. And it is delicious. No doubt about that. But for me, it's a bit too much. When I have breakfast there, I order poached eggs just to keep some of that butter out of my meal. There will be plenty on the toast, be assured.

Service is great. It's a busy place, but those waitresses are out there on the floor going from table to table non stop. Your bottomless cup of coffee will never get empty.

The mood is a diner. It's exactly what it says it will be. And it even has a sort of stand alone store with some knick-knacks in it (moose motif pajama pants, pine scented soap, that sort of typical Maine stuff).

Plenty of parking. Conveniently located right on Route 1. So if you are headed up to Rockland to take the ferry somewhere for your week in Maine next summer, plan in a bit more time and stop into Moody's on the way. Stretch your legs. Grab some classic diner food. The kids will thank you, if not your waistline. And grab a pie on the way out.

This family roadside diner is open 24/7 and has been in business with the same family since 1927.
They must be doing something right...actually they are doing everything right. The food is all homemade, delicious, simple diner food, the service is great, the diner atmosphere is authentic and the prices are reasonable. In the summer season and at the lunch and dinner hours plan on waiting for a seat at the counter or a booth. Order as you please but do not pass up the authentic, fresh baked Maine blueberry pie. There are plenty of great desserts on the menu but do not pass up the blueberry pie if you are an aficionado of such things.
