“Another wonderful stay at the Wave Walker”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This was the fourth visit for my husband and me, this time for our fifth anniversary. As always, Donna and Phil went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcomed on this trip. The food was delicious--fresh blueberry muffins, lobster omelets, delicious smoothies and more. We stayed in Esther's Room (our favorite) and enjoyed the deck overlooking Union River Bay and the jacuzzi tub. So relaxing. We love the Newbury Neck Road for bicycling--beautiful ocean views and little traffic--and had a wonderful time kayaking nearby Patten Pond. We'll be back again!

Room Tip: Esther's room has a soothing jacuzzi and great deck overlooking Union River Bay.

The Wave Walker Bed and Breakfast, nestled on the Maine Coast across the bay from Acadia National Park (ANP), provided us the idyllic July getaway. From the moment we arrived, our hosts (Donna and Phil), were authentically warm and welcoming. The property's private waterfront location created an indescribably beautiful natural vista...interrupted only by the eager hummingbirds and wild birds that frequented the many feeders. Donna's culinary talents resulted in breakfasts that "wowed" all of us appreciative guests. The attention to details such as mini-bouquets of fresh flowers in the guest rooms, Donna's complimentary homemade truffles and the ocean view from each of the four guest rooms, helped create a memorable first-experience for us. Anyone seeking respite from the daily demands of life will find this B&B a welcoming sanctuary. Located less than one hour from Acadia National Park, this will surely become a destination vacation for us. Thank you Donna, Phil and Karen for your gracious hospitality! You made our long trip from Wisconsin a wonderful experience.

Our stay at Wave Walker met all my expectations. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Our room was so comfortable, spacious, and had a wonderful view of the Acadia mountains after the fog lifted. My favorite thing was getting homemade chocolate truffles plus a jar full of chocolates every night. The room even had a small frig filled with white cheddar cheese, bottles of water, and a box of crackers on top. Wine glasses and a cork screw was also in the room, so I was able to chill my wine and drink it in a real wine glass. Doris is a fantastic baker and made us wonderful breakfast, a special Danish Æbleskiver filled with sausage and with fruit. The next day, breakfast was popovers and raspberry filled french toast. Our third breakfast was blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup. Doris and Phil were so friendly and helpful, and made us fill at home. We can hardly wait to come back in the fall.

Wonderful mini vacation experience made better by hosts attention to detail and a beautiful location. Hope you will be fortunate enough to be there when fresh crab is available and you can enjoy the crab quiche as part of your bountiful breakfast overlooking the Bay. One of the reasons we choose to stay at B&B's is to be able to learn about the local area and culture. Thanks to Donna and Phil for taking time to share about the local industry and people. Location is close enough to all the local areas of interest but secluded enough to be a welcome retreat if needed.

I'm a California writer who wanted a winter retreat, so I booked a week at Wave Walker because it's secluded and had good reviews. Words cannot convey my admiration for my hosts' inspiration in creating such an elegant yet cozy home for a traveler. My walks up to the end of the long drive and back a few times a day are breath taking with cold, sun, snow and dazzling views of the bay. My hosts are companionable, as well as busy with their own rich lives. I had concerns about flying into Bar Harbor in winter in Maine, but my hosts, Donna and Phil said as retired air traffic controllers they could assure me it's very safe. Can I drive if it snows? Yes, they said, the roads are salted and always cleared. I wondered whether I would be able to focus, to write. I have written in six days what at home would have taken six weeks, and that was tackling the hardest part of my novel. Others have reviewed Donna's cooking and to that I'll just say, Amen! FYI the flight from Boston to Bar Harbor on Cape Air was only $58.

Room Tip: All the rooms have private baths, incredible views, and beautiful woodwork, but the Green room (mine...

What can I say. We enjoyed our stay here so much. Donna and Phil were perfect hosts. Our room was top class, spacious, with fantastic views and great balcony, watching the intense red of the rising sun over Arcadia from our window seat was a highlight. We loved everything about the location, even the long drive out along the peninsula, the waterfront location was the perfect way to get a feel for Maine. Every day we headed off touring with Donna's great muffins to keep us company. Donna also makes excellent handmade chocolates and really helped to made our anniversary trip a memorable one. We hope we can return one day.

From the moment we arrived at The Wave Walker Inn, we were at ease. Donna and Phil welcomed us into their home which smelled of freshly baked treats. A heavy fog had settled into Union River Bay, but Phil assured us that the view was spectacular. We were ushered to our room, The Green Room, which was warm and inviting. It was exactly as we imagined—possibly better! The bed was super cozy and the window bed was divine.
The next morning, we were greeted by the amazing view that Phil had described. The fog was lifting but, most importantly, we could see, hear, and smell the ocean. Cadillac Mountain was visible from across the bay. Our first breakfast consisted of delicious raspberry stuffed French toast, fresh fruit cup, and blended smoothies. Also served were fresh out-of-the-oven blueberry muffins.
We spent the day enjoying local flavors and sightseeing in the town of Blue Hill. If you prefer charming small towns, then Blue Hill is your destination. We made our way back to Wave Walker which gave us the feeling of coming home. Donna had made a delicious blueberry cake with lemon icing. We finished off the evening with a soak in the jetted tub.
Breakfast on the second day had us enjoying crab quiche, vanilla custard, and fresh fruit. We took advantage of the gorgeous, warm, summer day by venturing out on the water in a tandem kayak. Later, we lounged at a local beach which was conveniently close to Perry’s Lobster Shack – a must visit.
Departure day was bittersweet. Phil served us Belgian waffles with all the trimmings. The freshly squeezed orange juice hit the spot.
We highly recommend The Wave Walker, you won’t be disappointed. We can’t wait to go back!
