View from our room (Heritage Room?) just couldn't be better. Sadly it involved hauling our heavy bags up a narrow stairway ourselves, so if you're less than able-bodied---. Welcome was fine, but the breakfast was pretty dull baked goods with little real variety, and overall the staff/owbwer? was pretty low key.

I'd stay again for the view and because we really liked Stonington and the surrounding area. Restaurant a few doors away (Seasons?) was pretty good

Room Tip: Just get a harbour view room. Don't hesitate.

Stonington is not Bar Harbor, and we are so glad! The Inn on the Harbor is the perfect place to stay in a small New England fishing village. The view is beyond perfect. The people are so friendly. The room was decorated with taste and care. Everything was clean. The breakfast was wonderful (do try the homemade granola!) Don't let the apparent isolation of Deer Isle scare you -- it is a beautiful 20 minute drive to get back to the mainland. From The Inn, we were able to visit Acadia, drive into the mountains (the moose were elusive), and shop in Portland/Freeport.

I cannot recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: You can look at the rooms on the web site.

Our recent stay at the Inn on the Harbor in Stonington, Maine brings smiles to our faces as we reflect on our time there. The inn is indeed on the harbor. Every morning we were awakened by the sounds of the fishermen leaving the harbor to head out to the bay to catch those wonderful, beautiful Maine lobsters. Our room was most comfortable...the morning coffee was excellent...and the continental breakfast sufficient. We look forward to returning someday.

Christina Shipps' life reads like a movie script: New York City business executive walks away from the successes and stresses of city life, and sets down new roots as an innkeeper in a quaint Maine coastal village where everything closes down by 8 p.m. You'll be happy that she made that choice after spending your very first night at the Inn on the Harbor. The luxuriously furnished guest rooms reflect Christina's unique personal style, a pleasing blend of big-city sophistication with easy-going Maine charm. Each room is named for one of Maine's reknowned windjammer schooners, and most have great views of Stonington Harbor and nearby islands. Some rooms also feature private or semi-private decks, and all inn guests have access to the main deck on the rooftop. It's particularly romantic to go up there at night and in the very early morning, as the sun rises and the working waterfront comes to life. We have been steadily working our way through different rooms over the past decade, which gives you an idea of how much we like this place! So far we have stayed in Timberwind, Victory Chimes, Mary Day, Stephen Taber, and Heritage. We have timed all of our visits around local festivals and must-see theatre performances at the Stonington Opera House, which is within short walking distance of the inn. It's hard to pick out a favorite or a less-than-favorite among all of these comfortable, clean, and beautifully decorated rooms, which makes me think that all of the other rooms are just as wonderful as the ones we have stayed in so far. A delicious breakfast buffet is offered in high season, with a more limited continental breakfast in low season. The coffee is amazingly good year-round, and it tastes even better when you take a steaming mug up to the deck to sip as you gaze out over the waterfront in the early morning light. The room rates are somewhat pricy compared to other lodgings in the area, even in the off-season, but it's still a good value for the money when you consider the luxurious furnishings, the amazing waterfront views both inside and out, the convenient location in the heart of Stonington Village, and Christina's warm and welcoming hospitality. We're already making plans to book Angelique for our next visit!

Room Tip: Don't worry, they are all good here! Obviously the inside views from the harborside rooms are f...

If one wants to see the ultimate Maine Lobster town, Stonington is it....this B&B was right on the main street facing the working harbor. Our room on the street was ok but one did hear the trucks of the lobster fishermen going by in the wee hours of the morning. So perhaps a room on the waterside would be less noisy. At night, however, there was no traffic after 8:00 p.m. Breakfast was buffet style....nothing special but decent. If you happen to hit good weather, the setting and view is simply the best. We had dinner up the street at a restaurant called Seasons....very good. For lunch we went to another place right in town called Fisherman's Friend.....terrific clam chowder....everything made to order.

My wife and I stayed at the Inn On The Harbor in Stonington the first week in August 2011 for the second time. This is a great place to stay for relaxation. We stayed in the American Eagle which has a private deck and a kitchen. We purchased lobsters off the boat at the Stongington Co-Op, brought them back to the room and cooked them.
The view from our deckwas great. We saw countless lobster boats coming and going in & out of the harbor in additon to many sailboats.
The inn provides a nice continental sort of breakfast each morning.
Stonington is a small lobstering village. There are several shops and a few very good restaurants. This is a great place to go for a very relaxing vacation away from the hustle and bustle of other vacation spots.
I highly recommend the Inn on the harbor in Stongington.

We stayed here shortly before Memorial Day and paid the off season rates (about half the peak rates). The room was clean and comfortable. Wifi & cable.

I hear that breakfast is good here during the season, but don't expect much in the off season. Coffee and toast and instant oatmeal.

You can't beat the location of the Inn. Walking distance to everything in Stonington including the Isle Au Haut ferry.

Built in the 1880s and perched right on the edge of picturesque Stonington Harbor, this bed and breakfast captures the very essence of Maine's Downeast island life. Ten of the thirteen individually decorated guestrooms face the sea and enjoy gorgeous views of Isle au Haut, the Windjammers and the island's fishing fleet. Guests can relax on the spacious flower-covered deck extending out into the harbor and enjoy the tide rising and falling beneath the Inn. They can fall asleep to the sound of nearby Mark Island Light's foghorn and wake up to the lobstermen heading out to sea. Several of our rooms have wood burning fireplaces and/or private decks. Our accommodations are relaxed and comfortable, all with private baths and sitting areas. The coastal atmosphere, with fresh salt air and brilliant sunny skies, encourages many of our guests to simply put their feet up and relax while watching Stonington's bustling waterfront.
