“Nice Inn on the "Quiet Side"”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Comfortable bed. Small but nicely decorated room had private deck with a view to the bay. Very clean & well-maintained. Breakfast was served at private tables on large porch. Baked eggs with lobster were especially good.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Abbott Room: comfortable, private bath, private deck with view, 2nd floor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kingsleigh Inn in July, 2012. We have been to Southwest Harbor before and prefer the "quiet" side of Mount Desert Island to the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. All of the rooms are beautifully furnished, beds are comfortable and most have water views. Our breakfasts were creative and delicious. Each day you have a choice of a "sweet" main course or a "savory." If you're traveling with another person, my advice is take one of each! Pamela and Bryan are wonderful hosts and are very knowledgeable of the area. They couldn't have been more helpful. The common areas, porch, living room gave us ( a group of 6 ) places to sit and talk. We enjoyed the afternoon wine but didn't always get the freshly baked cookies. Other guests must have taken handfuls! "Travelcouple97" mention the noise from the main street, which is really the only negative comment I can make. We had our windows open the first night of our stay but closed them the second night because of this. There was a "white noise" machine in the room which we didn't use because the air conditioner masked the noise. Still, this is a great place to stay and Southwest Harbor is very convenient to all the important sites in the area. A trip to Acadia and a couple of hours in Bar Harbor are a must

The innkeepers were super friendly and we had a great time there. The lobby fridge is stocked with complimentary sodas and bottled water. Guidebooks to the trails are also available for use. A nicely prepared breakfast comes with the room and is served from 8 to 9.

We stayed in the Turret suite which has many perks, including a private deck, a fireplace, a fridge stocked with water, and a flat screen TV with a DVD slot. The roomy bathroom has floors that can be heated.

The Inn itself is well located within Southwest Harbor. Across the street is the Quietside cafe; the Little Notch Bakery is also very close. The Kingsleigh Inn had everything we were looking for and more.

This is the third year we have stayed at the Kingsleigh Inn. We have kept returning because of the great accommodations, great food and great hospitality of the innkeepers. Everything is tailored to the guests and each year extra touches have been added. Breakfasts are terrific and well thought out nutrition wise. Afternoon wine and munchies are an excellent way for guests to mingle and get to know each other. The location is almost perfect. You are within walking distance of several top restaurants. There are plenty of shops and galleries in Southwest Harbor without all the commercialization present in Bar Harbor. Hiking trails and spots to swim are plentiful. What more could you ask for on a vacation? Bryan and Pamela are wonderful innkeepers and we hope they stay with Kingsleigh for a good long time.

Room Tip: Check the pictures of the rooms on the Kingsleigh Inn website. We finally got a room with a private...

My husband and I loved southwest harbor area and the Acadia park. Bar harbor was very crowded but good for a day trip, about 20 min drive. The Inn is comfortable and clean with air conditioners (which are quiet ) in each room we stayed in, the Turret (the fireplace was cozy on a rainy day) and Lyndhurst, which have king beds too. Breakfasts were delicious and served early, which got the day started but discouraged a later sleep in time. The inn is steps away from the quiet side cafe which has great pizza and ice cream and blueberry pie! There seemed to be one problem when our room wasn't made up by the maid one day. Next time, I might try the B&B that is a little further from the main street.

My mom and I traveled to MDI for the 2nd time this past week and once again, stayed at the Kingsleigh Inn. We had a wonderful time! As I said in my previous review, it is the special touches that make this inn stand out.

For the moment you walk-in, you'll notice the inn is very clean and well appointed. There are little chocolates throughout the inn and also port wine in the rooms for you to enjoy after dinner. We took full advantage of the happy hour each night from 5-6 and thoroughly enjoyed the wine and snacks they provided while playing scrabble or reading out on the patio. Throughout the day they put out freshly baked goods like cookies, muffins or bread. A nice touch! Breakfasts are wonderful - a fresh fruit juice shot to start, fresh fruit, main course (the egg dishes are the best - I would opt for those every morning when you are given the choice), and then finish with a dessert bite. The rooms are well appointed with plenty of room and comfortable beds (we have stayed in the Wellington on the first floor for both stays). Although the decor isn't modern and not necessarily my taste, it is neat and clean and just perfect for this type of atmosphere. We do not stay at this wonderful inn because of the decor but rather the exceptional experience. You are made to feel right at home and comfortable by your hosts Pamela and Bryan. You can tell they truly enjoy owning this inn and it helps to create a great vibe!

The location is great - right across the street from little shops and restaurants and the bus stop is right down the street. This year we hopped on the bus with our bikes (bike rental is across the street from the inn) and had a great time on the carriage roads.

We will definitely be returning to the Kingsleigh in the future! I am hoping that all these great reviews will still allow us to secure a reservation:)

Room Tip: Wellington is on the first floor near the kitchen. It allowed easy access to kitchen and patio.

Cannot believe the negative review given to the Kingsleigh Inn. We have been guests at this premier B & B for many years and through many owners. The current hosts, Pamela and Bryan, are second to none. Hospitality is evident in so many special touches. Nothing is overlooked. Please consider the overall ratings given my so many other guests and you will see that Amanda P would probably not be happy anywhere!
