“Wonderful inn, lovely area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

We spent four nights on Mount Desert Island (MDI) in mid September, three in Bar Harbor and one in Southwest Harbor at the Cranberry Hill Inn. Compared to Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor (on the "quiet side" of MDI) is more relaxed and less touristy--though still with plenty of great things to see and do. Our room in the Cranberry Hill Inn was plenty large enough, was very clean, had a good shower, and provided a nice view of the harbor through the trees. Our shared balcony/walkway looked out on a pretty, well-maintained garden. Our host, Patti, prepared a delicious and healthful breakfast that included quiche, fresh fruit, muffins, orange juice, and coffee.
Patti was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us great tips on how we might spend our time on the quiet side. The evening when we checked in, Patti sent us on a 10-min walk to a cafe in the business district for a piece of the best homemade blueberry pie that I think I've ever had. Early the next the morning, before breakfast, we walked the 3/4 mile or so through a pretty residential neighborhood to a pier that Patti had mentioned where local lobster fishermen were heading to their boats and tending to chores. It was a beautiful scene and very interesting. After breakfast, we left the Inn and spent the rest of the day exploring some of the lovely trails on the quiet side that Patti had recommended (e.g., Wonderland trail, Bass Harbor Light House). From this experience, we've become fans of this section of MDI, and we highly recommend the Cranberry Hill Inn.

We have stayed here 4 times over the last 4 years and this B&B is fantastic. Every time Patti and Jerry have treated us very well and we have loved the breakfast too. The first year we had some trouble on our trip but found Patti very accomidating to our needs. They went beyond what was required to help us out. Every year so far we have stayed a week. This side of the island is much nicer than staying in Bar Harbor which we have done in the past. I recommend Cranberry Hill Inn to anyone I meet who is thinking of going to MDI.

Enjoyed our one-night stay. Our room was clean and spacious with a shared deck, perfect for relaxing. Patti and Jerry are gracious hosts and made us feel welcome from check-in through departure. Breakfast was delicious. Would recommend this inn to anyone visiting Southwest Harbor.

Our family spent a wonderful night here last week. The inn was charming, and our rooms were very spacious and clean. The breakfast was absolutely gourmet and Patti, the owner, was welcoming and friendly. This west side of Mt. Desert Island was much less crowded on Labor Day weekend than the Bar Harbor side, yet there were 2 excellent restaurants within a short walk of the inn. There are, of course, wonderful hikes close by; we hiked up Sargent Mt. one day and swam in the pretty pond near the top-- gorgeous 360-degree views from the open summit. The next day we walked up the Valley Peak Trail and back the Flying Mountain Trail, which is a good loop hike for kids near SW Harbor. You will enjoy your stay here!

We spent two nights at the Cranberry Hill Inn. The room was comfortable, spacious, very clean and enjoyed the harbor views from the deck. Breakfast was perfect, a nice variety, always yummy. Patti is a very gracious hostess not to mention how hard working she is! It was the perfect way to start our vacation in Maine. See you next August!

This place is fantastic. The owner could not have been more helpful- gave us good recommendations on dinner, as it was our first time there. With great suggestions for lobster and wine, we took her up on both suggestions which were fantastic. There were cookies and tea out all afternoon- awesome! The room was beautiful, clean and great. We stayed down stairs and it was quiet, great to be out To the garden and spacious. Shower had good power and bed was comfy. Breakfast was incredible! Fresh granola over yogurt with fruit and eggs and bacon with cheddar- amazing. Can't say enough good things about this place. Price is completely worth a night or more here.

Patti and Jerry were so good to us and the Inn is absolutely immaculate and beautiful. Patti's breakfasts were such a treat compared to what we are used to at other bed & breakfasts. The Inn itself is situated in a lovely spot right on the harbor with a beautiful view of the water and lovely garden. It's walking distance from town, from trails, ponds, etc. We will most definitely be back!!

Room Tip: Just tell Patti what you're looking for. She'll take care of you!
