Description: Each table in Xanthus boasts a view of Acadia's mountains, Somes Sound, and the outer islands of Frenchman's Bay. A buffet breakfast and dinner are served daily when the hotel is open. The new hotel bar, which features an atrium skylight and detailed woodwork, is a popular setting for pre- dinner cocktails. Evening dinner service includes candlelit tables, linen, fresh flowers and attentive service. The menu changes regularly and features thoughtful regional cuisine using the finest local ingredients, fresh seafood and organic produce. Our wine list is carefully selected and offers interesting wines from around the world, both by the bottle and the glass. In keeping with the setting, appropriate attire is requested in the evening, and while jackets are not required, they are suggested.

“Terrific meal, but pricey”
Reviewed August 25, 2011

Great food. We had lobster and scallops. Both the website and the brochure in the cottage mentioned 3 course fixe price meal, but this is only available off season. The server was not very friendly, but was accurate in our order. The lobster was excellent and the scallops were perfectly prepared. The dessert menu was not overwhelming so we passed on that. Would have expected a little more variety there. All in all though, an excellent meal.

“Outstanding food and experience”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

We've found the Claremont's restaurant to be an outstanding experience these past six years (i.e. with their current chef). The food is excellent, fully comparable to downtown Boston standards. The dining room is elegant, with a view of Somes Sound that is unparalleled. But the atmosphere isn't snobbish, it's upscale Maine.
I suspect that the complaint about the service in another review reflects the hotel's mixing of Eastern European interns with more professional wait staff. We've had a few disappointments in service due to language barriers over the years but on the other hand you won't find a better waiter than Eammon, a student in Johnson & Wales' wine program who is now helping to select the wine list, whose knowledge of the menu and wine pairings is professional yet down to earth.
Tips: try to go on a weekend, when there are likely to be more items on the menu; go well before sunset and request a table as close to the windows as possible.

“Hidden gem in Southwest Harbor”
Reviewed June 24, 2011

The restaurant has enormous windows looking out on the harbor. It is tastefully decorated with beautiful fresh flowers everywhere. The wait staff were welcoming, warm, and very professional. The food was delicious. Our party enjoyed the squash soup, skirt steak, swordfish and chicken dishes. Chocolate souffle was divine. Nice linen tablecloths and an atmosphere from yesteryear, updated with style. We have already recommended it to friends.

“Spectacular setting, very good food, but wait staff not properly trained”
Reviewed August 11, 2010

Keep dining party small. Get there early, enjoy drinks at dockside bar overlooking the harbor. Have a Mainetini. Play a little croquet. The dining room is well appointed with very nice views. The hostess was pleasant and accommodating. The problem was that the table was not completely set when we were seated. The staff was unsure of how to properly set.
