our expectations for ordering take-out pizza from a small-town bakery in Maine were not particularly high - as long as it wasn't terrible, we would have been satisfied. but Little Notch turned out to be a pleasant surprise. their wood-fired pizzas were quite good. the crust was thin and crisp, and the toppings were generous. in fact, the pizzas were so much better than we expected that we ate lunch at the pizzeria the next day and it turns out their sandwiches, soups and baguettes are also pretty darn good. even if you're not in the mood for pizza or sandwiches, stop by to pick up one of their homemade raspberry or wild blueberry pies. honest: they're just like grandma used to bake. flaky crust on the outside, and packed solid with fruit on the inside. When you slice them, they don't run. It's solid fruit. picked fresh the same day they're baked. for a raspberry fanatic like me, it was a near-religious experience.
