“Great for ice cream, good for food”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We ate a meal here once. We all had pizza and it was good but not the style we prefer. It was a softer doughier crust than our normal favorite. It was hot and fresh. The meatballs looked to be frozen meatbals cut in half. The sausage was in nuggets. Both meatballs and sausage caused some heartburn. The greek pizza was well-topped and quite tasty. The chowder was judged pretty good.

We had ice cream here 5 times in our week. It was very good hard scoop ice cream. There was a cotton candy flavor that was a hit with the kids and but there were plenty of more sophisticated choices for adults. The soft serve was confusing and the counter staff didn't do a good job explaining how it worked. One time the soft serve was not ready (too soft) and the time we got to try it, we picked horrible combinations not understanding what flavor was in the ice cream and what was added. The ice cream wasn't cheap.

We didn't have blueberry pie because the cost seemed high. It did look and smell very good.

Stopped in for a quick lunch and wish we stayed for dessert! The food was simple and good, the ice cream looked good, and the blueberry pie looked incredible!

“Solid. Inexpensive.”

Grabbed a grilled cheese sandwich on the way back from doing some hiking. Good service. Good sandwich (and it is possible to mess up grilled cheese--they didn't). Will go back for ice cream -- apparently a local favorite!

“Quiet Cafe in Southwest Harbor is Full of Surprises”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

A great ice-cream stand and cafe too. This one is in the heart of lobster-land, and we weren't disappointed. I had a bowl of lobster stew. It was buttery, loaded with lobster chunks, and had a hint of garlic that made this a winner. Another in our party had the lobster roll. It was freshly made, on a toasted roll, heaped high with tail and claw meat. It was a lobster-lover's delight. We also ordered pizza. It was very good with a crispy crust, and tasty toppings. The fourth in our party had the scallop basket and after one bite, refused to share. She said that it was great, fresh, and not at all greasy (as so much fried seafood is). We shared two enormous pieces of pie. One was apple with a caramel drizzle, and the other was blueberry pie better than grandma could make. It didn't have any of that purple goop that you find in most places. This pie was crammed high with blueberries, native Maine blueberries, real blueberries. And of course, we had a scoop of Gifford's ice cream, on it, the same ice cream that they serve at the counter. Giffords is locally made, and strange as it sounds, try their Deer Tracks - espresso coffee flavor with chocolate and other good stuff.

“Safe bet for good, cheap food”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

Headed here our first night in SWH. Had pizza and blueberry pie on one of the picnic benches outside. Had a lovely, young waitress who was very attentive and friendly. Pizza was pretty darn good, as was the homemade pie. Good bet for quick, inexpensive food. Also had ice cream another day (think they serve Giffords?), and it was great.
