We have eaten here for 4 years and every experience has been superb. I cannot find another restaurant on Mount Desert Island (Acadia National Park vicinity) that has better food for the value. The servers are friendly and efficient. This is the place where the "locals" eat.

We went on "opening" night (for this year/season). They were slammed by an overlfow crowd. Food was still delicious, service was great (we had a person who was new to food service waiting on us who received great support from her collegues - returning from previous years - and the owner), the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed despite the number of people needing attention. This restaurant continues, year-after-year, to provide excellent value for the money spent and a great dining experience!

You have always heard about restaurants like this ... where upon walking in you are made to feel welcome, the atmosphere is homey with a bit of quirkiness on the side, and the food is consistently great. This is the place on the Island. After a day spent hiking/biking etc, in Acadia, it is nice to go out for dinner to a place which is come-as-you-are, we are glad you are here. We were so taken with Top of the Hill that we ate there three times. We had already eaten at "the best" restaurants on a previous trip to Acadia and found them all to be lacking and frankly, a waste of money. De Muros is a beacon of consistency and good value... it is worth the drive out of Bar Harbor. Debby as the hostess/owner is instantly engaging and accommodating with a great sense of humor. The menu selection is perfect for those that love seafood and those that do not, there is something for everyone. The prime rib was expertly cut and delicious, the "Lobster Pallozza" special showed us what it is meant to have a lobster "melt in your mouth" .. two in our party ordered this all three times we were there. After eating "Dan's Crab Cake" you feel like you simply must meet Dan face-to-face. And the "sweet mash"... we are still trying to figure out the recipe in our own kitchens .... apparently it really was made with love! The Italian specialties are worded with a sense of pride in the menu, you are compelled to order them. You won't be disappointed, plus the portions are substantial. I am still kicking myself for not ordering the eggplant parmesan (it can come with a side of meatballs). Check out the decorations, they are humorous and homey -- there is a decoupage shadow-box of Jaws- love it! Thank you to Debby and Dan, your restaurant became a part of our vacation memories. Will you come to New Jersey and cater our weddings? haha Best success to you as you enter your 15th season - you deserve it!

We have dined at three restaurants in Southwest Harbor. How this establishment may be rated as #1 in the area is a mystery to me. We still raving about dishes we had at two other restaurants and we wish we would have listen to our intuition.
We wanted to leave the minute we walked into this joint but we made a mistake by giving it a benefit of the doubt based of its #1 Trip Advisor rating. It was mediocre meal at best and we had to pay $4 extra to split the main course. The menu is limited and unimaginative. It was an average salad and appetizer, and FAMOUS Diablo lobster pasta was a great disappointment . The devil took day off and pasta tasted like it was made with the canned marinara sauce. The best tasting dish on the table was a bottle of wine. We were greatly disappointed with this meal and decided to have the dessert at the other local restaurant rated #2 on Trip Advisor.
Compare to other REAL fine restaurants in the area this is more like a diner (except for the prices) from both: the culinary and atmosphere perspectives.
Invest your money wisely and indulge your taste buds at number #2 or #5.

So sorry to read your review, as you were disappointed with your visit.
We are not, nor never claimed to be fine dining.
We are a Family Run establishment about to embark upon our 15th season.
We offer fresh, local foods presented without fuss or pretention, in a warm, cozy atmosphere. Our prices are among the most reasonable in town (or on the Island, for that matter).
I believe that's the reason for our high Trip Advisor ranking-
#1 for over a year without interuption-apparently there are many who appreciate our efforts, sorry you are not among them.

We eat at Top of the Hill at least once a week in the summer, and our visiting relatives and friends pick TOH every time for get-togethers. The food is consistently wonderful, with seafood and italian, their specialty, and my little ones find their favorites as well. Debbie, the owner and hostess, makes a point to welcome you, remember your name, your favorite table. She's just hands-on every day and genuinely loves her business and clientele. I wish there was a restaurant like hers near us in winter.
