“Mussels at Dry Dock Inn”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This cozy little restaurant in Southwest Harbor, Maine serves up a wonderful signature Mussels in cream appetizer with crusty bread which was for the two of us a delightful meal. The mussels were incredibly fresh and plump, and the preparation was stellar! Our server was appropriately attentive and gracious and the price was right. These mussels and a glass of crisp wine was excellent.

I pick up the mussels directly from the harvesters, and bring them into the restaurant right out of the water. They are raised on ropes in Blue Hill Bay which has some of the cleanest water around, not to mention coldest. The bay is on the western side of our island so the mussels aren't to far from the water to your plate. Our kitchen staff came up with the recipe a few years ago and it has turned out to be a huge seller. We also buy oysters from the same company which are also of very high quality. Mussels remain at their best for only a few days and after that they start to open their shells and drain any seawater in them. Mussels then start to become tough and dry out making for a poor quality item. We sell so many that they don't have time to get old. Thank you for your review.

“It's just OK”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Well the service is not real good, but it is very slow. Food is just OK but nothing here is outstanding. We have been here maybe a dozen times or more over the last five years and it's always the same.

Thank you for your review. We are sometimes slow because we are so busy. Being the largest and most popular restaurant in town we tend to get that way. With over 16,000 meals served this summer alone it is a good chance there will be other customers here on your visit. We will do another 2-3,000 in the next few weeks before we close for the season. After 28 years in business we tend to be consistent and attract a large local and tourist business.

“Good Food Good Service”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

I had a GREAT lobster roll here one night and went back for more. The blueberry pie was the best that I had while visiting. The ladies that work here are very nice, and it has a cozy feel.

Thank you for your review. Fresh local lobster, delivered daily from our fisherman, makes a great roll with plenty of meat. We have heard that for the price, it is one of the best rolls on the island. Our pies are all made right here by our staff with blueberry being the top seller. Our staff is a mix of local and Bulgarian ladies and do an excellent job. We are very pleased with the team we have put together. Our foreign students leave tomorrow, as they have to go back to college in their host countries and most of them will be back next year. Thank you again for your review.

“Friendly service does not make up for sub par food”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Stopped in for lunch. Ordered sodas to start but all of them were so watered down, there was very little taste or carbination. Ordered burgers figuring figuring no one can screw up a burger. WRONG! Too well done and DRY. However, the waitress could not have been nicer. There will be no next time because I will be across the street at the Quiet Side Cafe

We are friends with the owners of the Quietside and you will benefit us both by going there. I tried all the sodas from the gun after I saw your review. You must go to a place where all they serve is syrup since there is nothing wrong with our mix. When you order a burger that is well done, and it is 80/20 beef to fat, it is going to come out dry. If you have a burger that is 60/40 it will be juicy because it is the fat. Places advertise this as our juicy burger, but in reality you are getting a load of melted fat in your mouth that tastes good and clogs your plumbing. We believe in giving you a fresh ground burger, which we have ground every day at a local market. We also use high quality meat with a small meat to fat ratio. The type of meal you are talking about is served at fast food chains, and with loads of sugar syrup and fat added to improve the flavor of who knows what is in it. We cannot lower our standards and sell cheap unhealthy products. We are sorry about not meeting this need for you.

“Fresh seafood”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We stopped in for dinner on a Thurs night. It was a quaint place with friendly staff. I had the stuffed Haddock and my better half had the Scallops. Both meals were good and very fresh.

Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves on our great seafood. Being an island we have many products right here. We buy as much as we can from local fishermen and it is delivered fresh from the boat to our door. Thanks again for your review.
