“The Keag has it all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

We stop at the Keag at least once during our trips to Midcoast Maine. It's a great little convenience store, near the "keag", the post office, a great little art gallery...the folks are down-to-earth Mainers. The products are fresh, prices are good, it's just a great place to stop for the supplies for the picnic or dinner.

“General Store of old, with no pretensions or even self consciousness, but EXCELLENT lobster or clam rolls.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

Only a couple of indoor tables and counter seating, and just about any general merchandise or basic food one might want that would have been found in a 1950's neighborhood store sets the tone. But the crescendo comes with the lobster and clam rolls, and decent sandwiches of the hero variety. Right on the water, with picnic tables overlooking a million dollar view. Order at the food counter, and bus yourself.

“The best Crab Rolls anywhere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2012

As barbara1973 reports, the Keag store is an authentic Maine general store. My favorite meal is the Crab Roll, served toasted on a roll (two different sizes available). They can make it however you like, but if you don't specify any differently you get a very generous amount of crab meat with just a bit of mayonnaise on a toasted buttered roll. You can call ahead and they can make it for you in advance, otherwise it is made on the spot. My favorite thing to do is to cross the road and eat at one of the picnic benches next to the dock.

“An authentic Maine jewel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2011

The Keag is an authentic Maine general store and eatery - no frills, wooden floors, no chic factor at all. It provides good solid food at amazing prices served (a little slowly) by the small friendly staff who live in the area. It's patronized mostly by locals and folks from "away" who are smart enough to recognize a real jewel. Folks come here to get very reasonably priced food, stay a while and read the paper, and relax. For example, a huge breakfast including coffee averages around $5 and a 1 1/2 pound lobster dinner including a large serving of a homemade side, chips, and drawn butter averages $12. (Order ahead to make sure they don't run out.) Tables next to the windows overlook the Weskeag River. (We think the atmosphere in a real Maine place beats an artificial "atmosphere" by a mile.) It also has a decent selection of groceries, local newspapers, etc. If you want to get a taste of the real Maine, not something designed to pander to tourists, you need to go!!
