“What a lobster shack should be”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Great view, abundant fresh lobster, simple sides and fast, friendly service. Need I say more? Not really but I will anyway. Waterman's isn't a place that you are likely to stumble upon, unless you are looking for it, but of course since winning a James Beard award, they've had lots of people looking for them. Even in Maine, you can't get lobster any fresher than this. The lobstermen pull right up to the pier located on-site. There is a great view and lots of outdoor seating. It is what a lobster shack should be.

Waterman's is cash only and BYOB, so be prepared for that, although if you forget, there is a Keag store a couple of miles up the road, with an ATM and a limited selection of beer and wine.

“Beautiful setting on the ocean”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

We had a relaxing Friday night lobster dinner at Waterman's. They close at 7 pm and take cash only. You can bring your own beer or wine. You order the lobster dinner at the counter and it comes with a bag of chips and a roll on the side. You can also get cole slaw or potato salad and corn on the cob a la carte. The blueberry pie a la mode is fantastic.

we ate at Watermans on the Beach, hope this is the same place. You went up to a counter and ordered and then sat outside and ate lobster, corn on the cob and steamed clams: yummy, yummy just what I want to eat when i am in Maine! and all while looking out on the water. life is good!

“GREAT LOBSTER, ONE OF A KIND”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

If you're visiting the Maine coast, this is the place for lobster. There is a reason they earned the James Beard Award. The lobster and crab are just the BEST. Don't miss the pies. But get there early because the pies don't last. With a location right on the water at the pier where the family brings in the lobster, you know the food is fresh.

“James Beard was right . . .”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

Waterman's is the quintessential "lobster shack" located on a hidden corner of Midcoast Maine. Those who wish to experience it must seek it out, but it is well worth the, uh, "seek." It is a no-frills seasonal kind of place, byob (they display the best looking empty wine bottles on the bannister), open Wednesdays through Sundays from roughly Father's Day until late September.

But it is well worth finding. Run by a family for many years now (say hello to Sandy when you step up to the order window, she of big, warm personality and smile), the lobsters come in daily from another family member's boat, and Mom's pies are made up the street by a true-pie-believer. Lobster rolls are great, but eating a cooked lobster has its benefits . . .it takes longer and gives you more time to take in the sparkling cove in front of you.

A James Beard award winner on merit. A personal favorite on years of experience.
