This is one of the best bakeries in the area and when you visit, you will know why...it's a must. Get there early for their bagels. If you miss the bagels, their sandwiches are amazing and good luck if you can by pass the desserts on the way out. This is one place you will remember!

Scratch bagels are chewy, light and scrumptious. Eat them plain or smeared with cream cheese. During the weekend you have to be willing to brave the long lines for the bagels.

I happen to work at the campus down the road so stop all the time. Scratch is a must for anyone that loves a good bakery. I am from NY so know a good bagel and I also love sourdough bread. Scratch Bagels are amazing and a wonderful combination of both worlds. The scones, cookies and all wonderful. They recently added lunch and pizza... If your visiting Maine this place is worth the stop but you have to do it early as thing sell fast!

Scratch is one of those rare treats that you wish your hippy created in the 60's when he was trying to find his/herself. The baked products are fantastic, try the daily muffins- the bagels are a very unique cross between a Montreal bagel and a New York bagel and are chewy but at the same time light. The desserts are sinful and delicious try the camel cream puffs- they look odd but are amazing. The staff have a little attitude, however, do a good job and make an excellent coffee.
Enjoy!

We were in town for a business trip and this bakery was recommended by our clients. We dropped in around lunch time and were greeted with the smell of freshly baked bread, coffee, cookies...oh yum. The first bin of bread was just out of the oven so we couldn't resist a "slab" of herb and sea salt bread, and of course a bottle of red wine to go with. A nice little display of wines also greets you at the door. We wound our way around and settled on an almond horseshoe, a coconut macaroon, a chocolate chip cookie and a peanut butter cookie. Yes. Yes. Yes. They seem to have the right mix of chewy, crunchy and sweet. Highly recommend a stop by this little gem.
