“terribly slow service”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Went to the cafe for Sunday Brunch. Waiting for a table was not an issue waiting to be waited on was fine, but the 35 min. wait for a brunch menu entree... was absurd. I can only imagine why it took so long.. visions of only one serviceable frypan in the kitchen?? Not sure why, but it was to long. Food was good, but not worth the wait. Very much like a small ... slow , Friendly toast ( from Portsmouth NH) . My wife had dinner here with a friend and liked it... but also said it was slow. So if you are in the mood to spend a good part of your day waiting for OK food, go there you will like it.

“As good as ever”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

I’ve always enjoyed Pepperland Cafe, and was recently pleased to confirm the restaurant is every bit as good as it used to be, even after last spring’s tragic events. Lindsey, you will be missed, but I’m sure you’d be thrilled to know that your staff has kept the bar as high as where you left it. Last night I enjoyed the corn chowder, five-spice duck breast with cracklins, and shitake sticky rice, all of which I would happily order again. My nitpicks would be the “previously handled” paper menu, my (otherwise efficient and friendly) waitress’s inclination to chat with regulars while I waited for one thing or another, and duck which was just a touch rare for my taste. None of these minor gripes detracted from a terrific meal, and an overall excellent experience.

“Small Town Gem”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

Pepperland has long been a staple of the South Berwick community. A very short drive from Dover/Rochester/Somersworth, it is well worth the trip. Situated right on Main Street of the charmingly historical South Berwick, you can find art and great food with a small town appeal. Pepperland offers a casual, yet sophisticated menu that always satisfies.

“Nothing special”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

Goods balanced out by bads. Beer selection good. Food average. Friendly service from one waitress, grumpy mixed up orders from another. Generally room for improvement.

“Great food, great service!”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

This has become our go-to place for special occasions. Often our special occasion is just "dining out". The staff is helpful and pleasant. The food is usually local. Who knew we had a nearby winery? We have tried nearly everything on the menu, although we generally check out the specials list first. The parsnip cake is excellent, but the Tres Leche Cake is our personal favorite. Sunday brunch is crowded, but worth the wait in line.
