“Small but wonderful museum”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

My husband loves old cars so we stopped by this museum. I was so impressed (I am not a car person either) with the quality and beauty of the cars on exhibit. They also tell how some people started out in other lines of business and how they progressed to designing and building certain autos. While there we saw two steam autos were being loaded on a truck to transport to a showing at Pebble Beach, CA.
This museum is well worth planning a side trip when in the area of Acadia & Bar Harbor.
It is certainly a must see for "Old Car Lovers"

Thanks for your review Alice. We see ourselves as a history museum as much as a car museum, and do our best to tell the stories of the time period (turn of the last century) and how the auto industry influenced, and was influenced by, all the many other technological changes occurring at the time.

“Amazing museum (and I'm not a car person)”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

We came back because we had visited 12 years ago, and now wanted to take our ten year old here. I think it's even better now. The cars are beautiful and the displays and information are really well done. The kids have a Bingo activity that keeps them engaged. Everything they have is from the very beginning of the auto industry, about 1890-1920, including motorcycles. It really is fascinating, and I would not consider myself a "car person." We recommend it to everyone who visits Mount Desert Island, especially because it's such a deal; $6 per person ($2 for kids)! You can see everything in an hour, or longer, if you're really into it.

How wonderful you were able to bring your son to the Museum after visiting it yourself so many years ago, I hope he enjoyed it too! We really do have something to offer everyone, even non "car-people" - the stories the cars offer and their role in an important time in history are so interesting in themselves, the autos just happen to be the "vehicle" (excuse the pun!) to examining all the changes happening at the last turn of the century. Glad you enjoyed your second visit as much as the first and appreciated the new exhibits we have now.

“Great Muesum we happened on by surprise!”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

While exploring the many beautiful area on Mount Desert Island, we came upon the Seal Cove Auto Museum.. "a unique collection of antique autos and motorcycles from 1985-1917". As owners of a classic 1970 GTX, my husband is always ready to look at vintage vehicles and the Seal Cove museum had lots to offer. The curators of the museum were more than ready to answer any and all of our questions. The museum a great example of automotive history....a time when car were so much simpler and so very beautiful and classy. Be sure to take the time to enjoy a slice of history if you are in the Southwest Harbor of Mount Desert Island, Maine.
