The Holiday House Inn

We've been staying at the Holiday House for 5 years in a row. I discovered this place 20 years ago when my child was only 2 years old: nothing much have changed. Great family place!
The location is great, near Portland, Maine Mall, Freeport... and directly on the BEACH which is the main attraction for my family! And it is just a 6 hours trip from Québec city.
We always stay in the motel portion. The rooms are a bit dated, but very clean and confortable. Could use queen size beds, though. There is a fridge in each room, a TV. The staff is friendly and efficient.
There is a community kitchen opened from 7 am to 7 pm with a fridge and a small "cube" where you can place your grocery. There is everything you need to make a meal: coffeemakers, microwave, toasters, etc. I would suggest a second fridge since, in august, it becomes really full.
So you don't have to drive for breakfast or lunch.
All in all, a great place to spend a week and enjoy the beautiful beach.

Just returned from our annual Maine vacation and our stay at the Holiday House where the staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, and the location is ideal….far enough away from the hustle and bustle of OOB, but close enough to any vacation activity you could want.
Our room, in the hotel portion of the Inn, suits our needs just fine. We stock the mini fridge that is in the room and bring our own coffee pot and pillows, but do take advantage of the community kitchen where many a lobster lunch has been made and enjoyed!
We appreciate the daily housekeeping service, easy parking, and enjoy lovely patio overlooking the beach…..but the ‘Maine’ attraction for our family is the ocean, which is literally steps away.
They must be doing something right, it’s been our home away from home for a week every summer for the last 25 years! Until next year …

Although we choose the first week of September, to escape the crowds, -- we still enjoy the
relative peace and quiet of the Inn for this annual vacation. The staff are helpful and do their best to insure a pleasent stay. The Inn is somewhat dated, but there-in lies it's charm. I can
almost imagine my parents enjoying it's soothing aura, while sun worshipping on the rear
patio-lounge. A delightful beach, safe swimming, due to the protection of the outer islands,
and lot's of chances for daytrip shopping, with many excellent restaurants close by. There is nothing as soul satisfying, as reading a good book, while listening to the surf rolling in.

Room Tip: There are two choices of rooms/suites available. The first choices are the rooms in the Inn, which...

Thanks for your kind words....and yes, our furniture does have a little history, but because it was all made in Maine, by Moosehead furniture, we choose to keep it, as it is still highly functional....just not modern. We've tried to keep things as "homey" as possible without going the "chain" look. Once again, Thanks for the review and we look forward to seeing you again! Mary and the Staff

Stayed at this inn for the first time. Rooms in the motel are so-so; old furniture, quite dark, bathroom could use a bit of TLC... but clean, and comfortable. Loved that there was a little sitting area outside our room to relax after dinner. Shared kitchen was great, especially with kids; enough room in the fridge for our juice, milk and a few items; a little cubby for our dry goods. Only thing I would comment on is that it is available from 7 to 7 (would extend to at least 8 or 9, although no one threw us out when we stayed until 7:45 PM). The beach is probably the best point: quiet, beautiful sand, clean, not too crowded... I'm not a fan of Old Orchard Beach, so it is just far enough away... Didn't have to worry about packing a lunch, we could just run to the kitchen and get something! And the trolley stops every hour to go to OOB if one wants to is a big plus; no worries about parking. Also close to shops, restaurants, and a nice little market that makes breakfast and sandwiches... What else can you ask for on vacation! One tip if you come: very few amenities in the room; bring shampoo, hair dryer, even a coffee maker if you like to have it in your room... There is a refrigerator in the room, however....

Thanks for taking the time to write a review....it's great to hear what our guests think! As I mentioned in another response, we like to refer to our furniture as having some history to it. It's highly functional, but it was Made In Maine by Moosehead Furniture and that's why we love it. We're trying to stay away from that streamlined, modern "chain" look and I guess we've succeeded. One other note....our community kitchen used to close much earlier (at 3pm) and for the last 10 years or so have closed at 7pm. The biggest reason for the 7pm closing is out of respect for the guests in the room above and to the side of the kitchen. When we experimented with a later time, we had numerous complaints from those rooms about the noise. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but we've found that most of our guests love The Holiday House because of it's quiet atmosphere and location (far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Old Orchard Beach), hence the earlier closing. Once again, we appreciate your thoughts and hope you visit with us again. Mary and the Staff

My family and I have been coming here almost every summer for the past 4-5 years. Perks: beachfront, community kitchen, out of crazy OOB craziness, but
close enough by trolley if you have the urge for fried dough and skee ball. Most of the people staying here are from Canada and speak French, which makes
it interesting. Many of the same Canadians come every year with their families also. The only minus I can share is that the beds aren't comfortable. So my sis brought us some egg crate type cushions this year and problem solved. Also, its only 30 ish minutes to Portland (make reservations somewhere or you'll regret it like we did! We had a party of 7). Already looking forward to next year :)

We'd like to Thank You for taking the time to put your thoughts into your review. As so many of our guests have different preferences when it comes to bed firmness, you can imagine that not everyone is going to be pleased with our "middle of the road" firmness. Thanks again for the comments and hope to see you again! Mary and the Staff

Motel rooms are in disrepair. The carpet and furnishings are old. The room was dark. The smell was musty and dank.

Sorry but I would cross this off my list. Not a pleasant stay...........................................................................................................................................................................................................

I stayed at the Holiday House in early August in the Inn part of the hotel. Although the room was a bit smaller than you average hotel room, it was quaint and nicely decorated. It had a direct view of the Ocean. The Inn offers breakfasts in the dinning room of this converted large vacation home. The beach view eating breakfast is also very nice. The Holiday House is a friendly establishment and people come and vacation there year after year. The terrace in front is perfect for relaxing and the Pine Point Beach is large, not crowded and beautiful. The service at the Inn was friendly and efficient. I have vacationed there for more than ten years.

Room Tip: The Inn rooms are smaller that the motel wing rooms at the Holiday House but offer complementary bre...
