“Great Kayaking!”

Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center

Lovely spot. Great for kayaking. The salt water marsh is filled with all sorts of interesting animals, fish and birds. Snowy egrets are beautiful to watch.

My grown daughter and I rented a canoe at the center and we had a great time. The marshes are beautiful and home to many aquatic birds. We paddled through the "marsh highway" meandering along enjoying the sights, sounds, and beautiful marsh views. We passed under a small bridge (part of the Eastern Trail) and watched as some people fished from the trail pathway. It was a beautiful summer day with full sunshine and afforded us time to spend together without the hustle and bustle of everyday city life.

Three of us had called early to make reservations for a Full Moon canoe excursion. They offer canoe and kayak rentals here during the season as well as special events. This was one of those special events. My friend has difficulty with balance and getting down steps but the guides helped her get down into and then out of the canoe. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. The group set out into the marsh and paddled for about an hour before stopping and enjoying the full moon that had risen over the marsh. Along the way we saw many shore and sea birds. It was so beautiful. It was very affordable at only 11 bucks per adult. This included the cost of the canoe rental!

The center offers multiple programs and events during the summer season as well as a small gift shop and education center. If you are into natural beauty or just a change of pace from the typical beach vacation you will love this opportunity to get out into this wonderful ecosystem.

Bring your camera, some binoculars and a small snack. I don't remember seeing a restroom so GO before you go.
