Bayley's Camping Resort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 17, 2009

Per the recommendation of a fellow RV'er, we booked and were more than pleased. The campground is large, RV sites are spacious, level (important for an RV) and very clean. The staff was pleasant and accomodating. We plan to return soon, time and money well spent.

My husband and I and our 10 year old son stayed at Bayley's Campground for 5 nights in a tent and it was GREAT! This was our first visit to Bayleys and will not be our last. In fact we loved it so much that we will be back every year going forward. It was the cleanest campground we have ever been to. The owner Thom, is a hands on type of owner. He makes sure that things run well. He is always around and very friendly. The bathrooms are always clean. The pools are prestine! The entertainment for the adults, teens and young kids is superb! My son loved it. There was an issue with tenters who thought that they were above the rules of the campground and soon found out that they were not. Thom threw them out! What we liked was the fact that the owner threated us (a tenter and the least expensive site) like he would treat the most expensive site visitors. That was very important to us because we perfer to tent over RV and pop ups. We will definitely be back! Oh I forgot to mention the free trolly rides to Old Orchard Beach from 10 am to 6 pm everyday! TERRIFIC!

This was our 15th year in a row here and the 2nd yr in a row in which we rented a trailer. The staff is very nice, however the owner (Tom) is only nice if he is selling something, come to him with a problem he basically yells at you and makes you feel like its your problem. The rental this year had broken supports in the queen bed - which they did repair as well as a leaky bathroom sink which ruined my makeup and hairdryer - they did nothing about replacing my ruined items.
They do not have enough pet-friendly rentals; never enough lounge chairs by the pool. If you want a lounge chair, you have to "mark" your territory early with a towel. We got to the pool one day @ 10 am to find all the lounge chairs with towels but nobody around until 11! Thats just wrong!
They have also been adding more sites which has led to large construction equipment (excavators, back-hoes etc) being driven frequently through out - I feel like I am in a construction zone!
The camp stores are extremely pricey (graham crackers, marshmellows and 3 hershey bars cost $18).
Our rental trailer cost us $2800 for 11 nites! We had to pay for our 3rd child and extra "holiday" fee. While we love coming to this area of maine and our kids have made a ton of friends they enjoy seeing every year - we feel the value isn't there any more. We could rent a house on the beach for less than this or buy our own trailer for what it cost to rent for 2 years.
I will mention this place to folks, but will forewarn them up front of the negatives - as they now out weigh the positive.
Also, this area of Maine does NOT have great restaurants. For nice places - go into Black Point (Black Point Inn) or Kennebunkport (White Barn Inn) or Wells (Joshuas)
Also, they boast FREE WI FI - don't plan on getting more than a LOW signal which drops 90% of the time! I'd rather pay a small fee to get Wi/Fi than to have unreliable service!
Stop being so greedy Bayley's - you already own most of the town!

We spent a week at Bayleys based on very good feedback but we were not as impressed. The place is very crowed especially checkin. The sites are tight and wooded. The entertainment and pool complex was great and it was nice to not have to cook for a night as they had in house place for food. It was good for a night especially getting lobster in a campground. That was a first. The fishing area in the back was very nice and nice place to bike ride. All activities cost money. It was very close to beach but even in August water was ICE cold. The worst was bugs as you could not even sit out at night and we picked up some serious ants from the campground. It took days to rid all the ants. I would not return.

I have been going to Bayleys with my family for the past 3 years. We loved the first year, the second year we swore not to come back but gave it another chance. This time we really mean it. We reserved the site for a whole week, but only stayed 4 nights. The site was like we were camping in our driveway, but only worse. It was so muddy and there was no place to even set our chairs around the fire pit. The site was so cramped. We usually book 3 to 4 sites since we go as a group, this year we all swore that we will never go back.
The funny thing is that Bayleys is the only camp resort that charges an additional $35 for each of your own child for the stay. This is just not the norm. We have gone to so many other places, yes they do charge for additional children, but not your own kids.
I wish Bayleys would have not gotten so greedy and stuck with their former business concept. Customers are no longer thier priority, it is putting as many sites and making the most $$ in each square foot.
