“Anchor Inn Redux via Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

Took the family to the Anchor Inn for a birthday lunch around 2pm where lunch is served until 3pm (I think). There were about six or seven tables in action aound the restaraunt and we could sit where we wanted thus opted for the screened in porch. The waitress was right there with specials and the taking of the drink order. We ordered Ckicken Little (kids chicken fingers; 6.77), steamed mussels (10.86) and a cup of clam chowder (4.86), tuna melt (9.87), crab melt (13.64), and a Reuben (10.15) where the sandwiches can with either french fries, rice pilaf, or potato salad; we took the fries and the salad. All of the food was great; the reuben was piled high on a marble rye, there was lots of crab and tuna on the melts, my son loved the chicken little and fries, and son #3 loved the mussels and chowder. We requested bread for dipping into the mussel sauce where they brought out hot freshly baked rolls; nice! View was nice as always, restaraunt was clean and orderly, staff were very friendly, and it totalled about $70 with tip.

“Safe solid choice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

reading the reviews i agree with many of them. You can hit a lucky or unlucky day but the standard fare in my opinion is generally good. The mussels, fish and ried shrimp are always fresh and good, the beer cold, the staff friendly.

“Not a Good Place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

The popularity of this place amazes me. My wife and I arrived at 6:55 for our 7:00 reservation and were told we'd have a 30 minute wait. We were finally seated at a table next to the door after having to stand next to a table of drunken locals in the bar. We could see very little of the supposedly wonderful view. The only good thing about our dinner was the waitress who was friendly and efficient. The food was nothing more than what you might expect from a roadside clam bar and the atmosphere little better. "Baked potato, fries or rice" accompanied dried out swordfish and salmon on a bed of arugula (they ran out of the advertised spinach). The "vegetable medley" was tasteless and soggy squash and a few other things. The wine list was uninspiring and overpriced. We didn't bother to stay for dessert because we figured the ice cream bar up the road could do better. All of this mediocrity was tourist priced, that is overpriced, and not worth the money. Yet, when we left, there were people waiting 45 minutes for a table. Go figure. Best to drive a bit further to Damariscotta or New Harbor for a better meal or walk down to the dock and have a lobster dinner over the water. This place is certainly not what it used to be.

“Not what it was”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Have eaten here over the past three years and made another special trip to experience it again in mid August. This time, we can only describe the food as average. A lettuce wedge was soggy and not crisp. (and so reported) An entree of halibut, the fish was very good, but the side vegetables were ordinary. Overall, it was run of the mill tourist food. However, the setting is beautiful.

“Solid menu, great views, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

I love the Anchor Inn but my traveling party would probably have given it a 3-star. Maybe I am biased because it's our home restaurant both times we've come here. We stay in or near Round Pond and it's the only real sit-down restaurant in town. The food is solid, it has a full bar and it overlooks Round Pond Harbor; what's not to like.

The staff is adult and kid friendly. Everything I've had has been really good from the the salads to a traditional lobster roll to simple fish and chips. My friend had a Sea Bake (I think that's what its called) which I am going to have next time. Go here, you won't be let down. And if you are, have another beer and chill out.
