The Inn at Round Pond is a wonderful destination for a quiet getaway on Muscongus Bay and Maine's scenic Pemaquid Peninsula.
The Inn has three delightful three bedrooms. A highlight of each day is the complete gourmet breakfast prepared by the friendly retired husband and wife owners. There is no set schedule for breakfast. The owners will ask you what time you would like to come down for breakfast and they will adjust the time to suit your planned activities for the day.
The Pemaquid region is largely undeveloped, but there are plenty of activities to fill a two to four day stay. The excellent Anchor seafood restaurant and an authentic Maine lobster pound restaurant are located right across the street on the unusual naturally round harbor (Round Pond!) right on Muscongus Bay. Also across the street is a large gift shop with a delicious ice cream window.
Round Pond is just up the road from New Harbor, Maine where the movie Message in a Bottle was filmed. New Harbor is also the point of departure for daily boat trips to Monhegan Island, which lies ten miles off the coast. A day trip to hike the secluded forest and cliffside trails of Monhegan Island makes a great centerpiece for a trip to the Inn at Round Pond. The most picturesque views of Maine's rocky coast we have ever seen are along the trails of Monhegan Island.
On each trip we also visit the Pemaquid Point lighthouse (Maine's most photographed lighthouse, with another gift shop and ice cream window next door!) and the nearby colonial Fort William Henry.
We go to Round Pond primarily for the excellent kayaking and seal watching on Muscongus Bay, but other visitors go bicycling or sign up for sailing or lobster boat trips.
We encourage anyone planning a trip to Maine to include a stay at the wonderful Inn at Round Pond!
