I really like Maynard's. It's a lovely drive from Greenville to Rockville; the resort is located on the Moose River, off Moosehead Lake. The menu has a few appetizer items and two evening selections, which change each night of the week, then repeat. The food is wholesome and good -- not great -- and lots of it. The desserts are tasty. The service is always cordial. During the summer, the dining room is always hopping -- often a table of fishermen telling tall tales of giant fish and epic battles of the reel. This place is a throwback to another time and is well worth a visit. I try to go at least once or twice during the summer season. [Breakfast and lunch are served, but I've never tried those meals.][Beware of moose on the highway, especially at twilight.][BYOB.]

We've stayed here a few times in all seasons and just love it! The rustic cabins are basic but cozy, even in the cold months. There's a woodstove and wood is provided free of charge. The owners and staff are all helpful and welcoming. The food is excellent! Don't miss the prime rib special, it's superb. Fishing, boating and hiking in the area is fantastic, Maynard's is "the real deal" for Maine. There's good reason this fun and funky place has been around for decades.

This place is absolutely beautiful. If you want to stay at a place to show you what Maine is all about, then this is it! Between the meals and the hospitality you'll think you've stepped into paradise. The cabins are quaint and rustic, and just a walk through the lodge will bring you back in time. The most relaxing and quality time spent with my husband and friends was found here. I've never felt more rested and ready to go. Thank you Gail for everything!

The stay was wonderful. We went to climb Mount Kineo and we're certainly well fed for our hike. Gail the owner was helpful. The food was over the top no one in our party was hungry. The lunch they packed for us was delicious. The cabin was rustic, clean and comfortable.

After traveling for a few hours to our destination, we came upon a big lodge surrounded by small cabins. I became very excited, hoping that one of the cabins was ours for the night! BINGO! There were no "lesser quality" cabins or "hotel style spaces" in the back. What we saw was what we got! A cozy, primitive little cabin that was the perfect size! A beautiful view! A covered front porch with chairs and a table (including a rocking chair). Blankets and towels included. The place was great! With tetherball, badminton, and horseshoes, our morning was filled with all sorts of activities! Stay here if you want to go back to simpler times. And enjoy nature and your company!

Room tip: All cabins seem to be equally wonderful!
