“Nice campground with a beautiful view of the water”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

The name reads RV resort, but there are cabins and tent camping here as well. (website reads "Megunticook Recreation Destination"). We tent camped so I do not know the conditions of the cabins. The campground staff is friendly and accomodating. This is a dog-friendly campground. Although I was intially concerned with the proximity to the road, it turned out to be a nice, quiet campground. Our visit coincided with luau weekend and there were activities such as volleyball, horseshoes, a pool, movie night, and an outdoor concert. We could have spent the whole day there if we wanted to. The best feature of this campground is the water overlook. Take note, it is an overlook. You cannot go down to the water. As in many places along the coast of Maine, there is no beach. It is a nice place to relax in the afternoon and it's worth getting up early to see the sunrise over the water.

Stayed here on the Campground just for one night. No "oceanfront", just in the middle of the woods. We asked for max. 30 amps., no sewer or water needed but we got all that stuff.
Since we had to change the place for a better levelled site, we learned that there where still available sites without sewer but no refund was given to us.

Restroom facilities have not been cleaned for a while, walls of the restroom building must be of cardboard, because they are bend/broken, the showers are stalls with just one hook, no try or shelf, no ventilation and they are outside of the restrooms, have to go back to the restrooms for hair dryer etc.

One night costs USD 58.00 (inkl. 5% Good Sam's rebate) For that price I would expect oceanfront and at least clean bathrooms and showers.

It's just a rip off and it seem the most expensive price will be charged by all means.
Ok - we where stupid enough to accept without further questions.

I booked an ideal "cottage" at this location forma 5 day stay with my wife and daughter. These cottages are nothing but glorified trailers, not even 200 square feet. The loft is a fire hazard and the bunk room is more like a closet. The main bedroom has the toilet and shower right in the room, no door. We left 10 minutes after arriving and demanded our money back. After days of calling and calling we settled onngetting half back. They are scumbags, do not do business with these people.

We were disappointed in our stay at the campground. If you are looking for a campground by the sea, DO NOT choose this one. You can only go on foot to view the sea (you're pretty high up as well, don't be fooled by the pictures on their website) and it's a long way from the camp sites. You are more likely to hear the sound of the cars on the highway passing just in front of the camping then the sound of the waves crashing on the rocky shore. We actually had to speak to each other louder so we could actually hear ourselves over the sound of the cars and trucks. We didn't get any sleep cause of the noise as well, especially sleeping in a tent. Bathroom and Showers are near the office and are the only ones on the entire campground, pretty far to walk, especially in the middle of the night. At least they had a pool, since it was a humid day... only positive thing I can find, since I would not recommend this camp site to anyone.

Yes, we spotted porpoises out on the sea from the Megunticook Campground ocean look out. We rented a cabin here, and it was an awesome time. The shower/toilet facilities are clean and functioning. The cabin was very clean and adequate. This campsite was the perfect launching point for nearby adventures- hiking Mt. Megunticook, the ocean, swimming in the nearby lake, and plenty of lobster rolls in Rockland, Rockport and Camden. The staff at the campground are extremely helpful and friendly.

Note: the main office does have internet, but only for campers to use during an emergency. But if you bring your own laptop, they have wifi at this campsite!

  • Liked — the ocean look out
  • Disliked — i truly like everything, but since you're making me pick ONE thing, i wish there had been one computer in the main lodge for guests to check email
