“Great family vacation spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

We stayed at the Samoset for 5 nights in mid August 2012 with our 3 year old son. We stayed in a suite on the 4th floor which was perfect with a little one. Both the bedroom and sitting room were spacious with amenities like a fridge and keurig. The resort itself is lovely with well-kept spaces and grounds. The pool area was crowded but not so much that we could not find seats. The walk-in pool is great for little ones and the bartender at the pool was great. We had no problems with towel service as a few reviewers have mentioned. We also took advantage of the playground, sandbox, indoor pool and arcade room.

The service at the hotel was good, not great. I found the concierge to be rude and un-helpful when we asked about family-friendly activities, and after the first few tries we just stopped asking. Restaurant service was also OK.

My main complaint about the resort was the lack of dining options. There is only one restaurant open for dinner in addition to a lounge with first-come seating. For such a long stay, we found the options too limiting and often ventured into Rockland for dinner. In addition, when the hotel is sold-out, the wait for both restaurants was too long for our toddler (greater than an hour). With that being said, the food was well-prepared and priced reasonably for a resort.

Overall a great stay and we will return.

Room Tip: 4th floor ocean view rooms have a wonderful view from the large balcony and are quiet.

Charlotte4625,

We appreciate your visit to The Samoset resort this August with your family.

It is wonderful to hear you enjoyed your spacious two room suite accommodations, and our pristine outdoor Zero Entry Pool. You will be pleased to hear we are adding chairs to our pool seating area next year to provide additional comfort for all our guests.

I am sorry our concierge was not accommodating during your stay. Our goal is always to provide the best in Maine Hospitality. We will be sure to exceed all expectations during your next visit.

We look forward to hosting you again as your family grows so will the options at The Samoset Resort.

Sincerely,

There were four of use (husband, wife and two children, 14 and 11) and were very comfortable in our room. We had a ocean view out one window, and a view of the pool out the other.

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious, modern and clean. There is a gold course, ocean walk (on a 7/8 mile jetty), tennis courts, basketball courts, pool, etc. It's a very comfortable and quiet place, and the restaurants in the resort are excellent.

I'd give it 5 stars any day.

This was our first time at the Samoset, and in this area of Maine. We stayed for 6 nights, in a second floor suite with a hot tub on the balcony, which our two kids loved. The room was fine, the view spectacular, it could use some updating, heavy cleaning, especially the bathroom, in terms of details (vent cleaned, grouting redone) but the bed was really comfy, linens were great too.
The staff at the hotel were all friendly and helpful. Anne, the concierge was really great. We had a few rainy days and she gave us several suggestions of things to do, Owls Nest Transportation Museum- excellent. She sent us to Port Clyde to go on a kayaking trip which was the highlight of our week. We took out tandem kayaks, saw porpoises, and a seal, and the people who own the business, Tamra and Cody, and one or their guides, John were outstanding. It was a kayaking lesson, an adventure, and a workout all in one.
The food at the hotel restaurant was excellent, very kid friendly and not over priced. The bar at night is fun, great food and the entertainment was enjoyable!
The Samoset is a great family vacation spot. They need many more chairs at the pool. It was disappointing to arrive at the pool and not have a place to sit. The spa was wonderful, small, but great services. Also, the kids club was great. It is only available for half the day but our kids, 8 years old, loved it, and it was FREE! Definitely an easy, enjoyable vacation. Not a 5 Star hotel, but it has the potential to be that with some more attention to detail.

Room Tip: Second floor suite, with 2 queen beds, and pull out sofa in sitting area, balcony with hot tub and o...

LIPOS,

Thank you for staying with us this summer for what sounds like an amazing vacation.

I am sorry that I was unaware of the room details during your stay. Since your review, the Executive Housekeeper, Chief Engineer and I have been working to detail every guestroom to ensure all guests enjoy the high cleanliness standards we pride ourselves in.

It is fantastic to hear you were able to enjoy the Mid Coast region including your kayak adventure in picturesque Port Clyde Maine.

Our resort is very proud of the services, and hospitality it offers. We are pleased you noticed our friendly staff, exciting dining options, and Samoset Kids Club.

Guest feedback is vital to our success, and we are pleased to announce we will be adding 30+ chairs and umbrellas by our Zero Entry Outdoor Pool next season. We hope your family and others will enjoy the additional space to relax.

We hope you visit us again so you can witness the resort’s astounding improvements.

Sincerely

Cornelius Russell

My husband and I just stayed at the Samoset for the first time. We were so pleased with the atmosphere, amenities, golf and staff! One person in particular stood out above all else and really made our experience in Maine exceptional! Jeramy, your food and beverage manager was not only a pleasure to talk to but professional and knowledgable. He was over the top helpful when my husband wanted to order some Tuscan wine! He brought three bottles to our table and even looked up the reviews on each wine on his computer! Then he replaced the small red wine glasses with bigger ones so we could really enjoy the wine's bouquet and properly decanted the bottle. He also sent a complimentary cheese plate too our room the first night because he heard from somewhere that it was kind of our honey moon having gotten married only a month before! Thanks for a wonderful long weekend! Lori and Jeff Deuink

Room Tip: Ocean views are outstanding and worth the money.

Lori d,

Thank you for staying with us for your honeymoon. We appreciate you choosing us for such an important occasion.

Your feedback of our Food and Beverage Manager Jeremy shows we met our standard of providing the best in Maine Hospitality. Jeremy, like our other team members look for opportunities to make your stay outstanding, and always look forward to positive feedback.

It is great you were able to enjoy the Tuscan wine Jeremy picked out for you, as well as the State of Maine Cheese Display that was sent to your room.

We look forward to you making this an annual trip to The Samoset.

Sincerely,

We only spent one night at this hotel and found it to be pleasant enough but nothing particularly special. It is set in a lovely location right by the bay breakwater which is a pleasant walk and the hotel has attractive views of the sea and bay from many rooms. The resort has a large golf course which somewhat spoils the scenery but could be a bonus if you enjoy the sport. The outdoor pool is of a reasonable size and the patio area was good. However we were very dissatisfied with the splash drink bar which is in the pool area. The bar had a range of drinks although we chose Mocktails of which there was a selection of 5, all priced at $4 or $5 each. There seemed to be a large number of staff but only one of these was able to serve alcohol, after a lengthy wait, we were served. When our drinks arrived we were disappointed with quality of them. One of them seemed to contain very little drink and mostly ice and the other had a bitter taste. Our room was large and spacious. There were a few glitches such as the bathroom door would not shut properly and the whole building seemed generally cheaply built. On the whole, the hotel was pleasant but it was nothing special and seemed rather overpriced.

Blueberry99,

Thank you for staying with us this summer.

We are very happy you enjoyed the beautiful walk to the Rockland Breakwater, and were able to enjoy the ocean views.

We appreciate your comment of our Mocktail selection and quality at our Splash Pool Bar, and will certainly review this information for next season. Our Splash Bar has two bartenders, and five servers. The servers do order the drinks through the bar; we will evaluate staffing for our 2013 pool season.

It is wonderful to hear your accommodations were spacious, and we regret your door was not working properly. We hope you enjoyed the recent upgrades we have completed in our rooms including the addition of HD televisions with Showtime, Keurig machines, mini refrigerators, ipod radios and more.

We hope to host you again so we many provide you with a true premier Samoset experience.

Sincerely,

Cornelius Russell

Staff was great...as was room! Fitness center was nice, and the indoor water fitness class was fun!
Restaurants were good. Only drawback was if you didn't get to the pool early and stake out a spot there wasn't enough seating

Room Tip: AC was a bit noisy! Breakfast buffet was really good!

The Samoset Resort is a beautul spot overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, but our stay was literally interrupted by very loud jackhammer for 45 minutes while sitting poolside.
this was taking place about 5 yards from the pool. Yes it is hard to believe any resort would allow this to happen to their money paying guest. Management was not very helpful or apologetic, I guess this will be our last trip to this resort, we prefer to go somewhere they help you to relax, not give you a headache!

Triciarealtor,

Thank you for visiting The Samoset this summer.

Though our goal is to never interrupt any guest’s stay we apologize you felt your experience was altered.

A tent company vendor was on property for 45 minutes to set up a tent for an upcoming event which was located on the lawn by our pool. Though they maximized their staff and hurried their process the set up did take that allotted time. This vendor unfortunately used a mental tool to hammer in the stakes which caused the noise.

Your visit to the front desk certainly portrayed your frustrations, and had you not departed the desk in a hurry, our management would have been able to inform you that in lieu of your interruption, our Food and Beverage Director removed any Splash Bar charges you had on your account. This information was communicated to you by a telephone call from our Food and Beverage Director to your room in addition to offering a room upgrade.

We immediately contacted the company who has since changed the methods they previously used to install their tents. Any tents installed since your departure have not had any impact on our guests.

We hope you give our property another chance for a visit, as your particular scenario is rare.

Sincerely,

Cornelius Russell
