How can you begin to put into words all the delights we exprienbced at the Granite Inn? Beautifully decorated with attention to the old and new, we felt right at home there, the inviting living rooms offered a chance to read peacefully, pondering the past. Our Dad and my sisters were in Rockland for a 50 year reunion. Ed and Joan were so gracious and provided excellet breakfast new each moring to spark our delight the menu was so varied , each quiche, fitatta, scone muffin, fritt salad, stuffed french toast, coffee and juice, they even made sure we had sugarfree syrup. Our rooms we simply warm and comforting. I took some amazing photos of the sunrize, over looking the harbor, spent time soaking in the view of the ferry, from the front porch of the Inn, we will be back Ed and Joan and staff are to be congradulated on all their efforts to make our Rockland stay memories, last a life time.

A last minute weekend getaway to Rockland, Maine, proved to be both restorative and invigorating, thanks to the wonderful haven and hosts at the Old Granite Inn. As previous reviews attest, the inn is a visual delight, a wonderful, eclectic mix of old and new, with lots of interesting art and some fantastic blooming plants throughout the rooms and hallways. Our room, on the second floor overlooking the harbor, was bright, spotless and very comfortable. Hosts Ed and Joan provided excellent suggestions for dinner, and we had a terrific meal at In Good Company, right down the street. The next morning we lingered so long over their world-class breakfast they had good reason to suspect we might never leave, but we were so enjoying both their company and that of some fellow guests that it was hard to depart. Kudos: there a magnifying mirror in the bathroom - hallelujah! Have been forced to travel with one as so few hotels or inns have them - wake up hospitality industry! Don't you realize most Boomers, with the time and wherewithal to travel, are blind as bats but still want to put on mascara?! Also appreciated the complimentary water bottles and the fact that children and pets are welcome. This is a very special place, as is the Rock City. You can spend a whole day exploring the Farnsworth, walk the breakwater to the lighthouse at Samoset, indulge in high fashion or used books on Main St., or just hang out at the Old Granite Inn in splendid peace and quiet. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We love sunlight, which floods the two rooms at the front of the inn.

We stayed for one night and had a wonderful time! The Inn is clean and comfortable, with warm touches throughout. We stayed in the suite and it was spacious yet cozy. It has a whirlpool tub and an electric fireplace that was perfect after a cold night on the town. The hosts are friendly but not overbearing. The breakfast was to die for! An amazing amount of food and all of it delicious! The Inn has a great location for walking in to town or just looking out the windows to the harbor. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: The suite or the large room facing the harbor.

This was our second time staying at the Old Granite Inn, and it just keeps getting better! On a mid-March weekend, we had our pick of rooms, and chose the suite (rooms 8 and 9). The room was beautifully decorated and very restful. Comfortable bed, spacious, and impeccably clean. Wonderful photographs on the walls. The breakfast was spectacular.... More food than we could possibly eat (unless we stayed at the table all day!), and everything was delicious. Ed and Joan (our hosts) were very kind and had some wonderful stories to tell. All in all, this is our favorite B and B in the Rockland area, and we will definitely go back!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely, but the suite is really special.

We stayed at The Granite Inn on the heels of a blizzard, and while we found plenty to do around Rockland we would have been content just staying in at The Granite Inn. Comfortable room, classy decor and sumptuous breakfast. Just perfect!

The Granite Inn was the only place we found that would happily accept our dog. We choose room # 3 because it was on the quiet street side. The Inn is tastefully decorated, including our room. Ed and Joan were excellent hosts. Ed made daily creations such as stuffed french toast, lemon scones hot from the oven, sausages, fruit salad, and Johnny cakes. We have reasons to be returning to Rockland and will attempt to get a room at the Granite Inn next time, although I think we will book a bigger room if available.

Room Tip: Room 3 was cool with two outside walls and small. The bed was very comforable and we slept like logs...

Great setting across from the ferry....Ed and Joan made everything perfect. We started our stay with a beautiful birthday greeting for my husband and a box of locally made delicious chocolates! Very accommodating to any needs. Breakfast offered many choices and they were all delicious and presented beautifully. Room was designed for a calm and peaceful experience. Also loved having large sitting area on main floor for reading and conversation. And now for us the reason all was near perfect is that we could bring our dog. Highly recommend this place. We are B & B owners as well.

Room Tip: A room with the view upstairs was awesome.
