Puffin Project has a short film (15-20 minutes) about the depletion of the puffins on the Maine coastal islands, and the repopulation efforts. Very interesting! the gift shop has fun stuff that you don't see elsewhere. Worth a stop!

I'm glad our family had time to stop by this great little information center. After learning about the Puffin's our family decided to take a boat trip to see the Puffins first hand. We loved teaching the children about such a local and unique animal.

This is a small place that is doing a lot of good. They have a small gift shop area. All proceeds go to the program, not just a small percentage. They show a short documentary on their project and allow you to ask all the questions that you want. They have a live cam and you can move the camera around to zoom in or out to see exactly what you want to. You can also make a 10 minute DVD of footage that you decide to record for $10.00. We were glad that we did this because on our puffin watch we were not able to get any decent pictures of them puffins.

The Project Puffin Visitor's Center (PPVC) is a cute little shop on Main Street in Rockland, ME. Your best bet for visiting is in the summer, however the center does have hours during the off -season as well. Please visit http://www.projectpuffin.org for store hours and details. The PPVC is run by the non-profit organization Project Puffin, and carries all kinds of puffin gifts and novelties.

The Center, in addition to selling puffin-themed gifts, celebrates the success of Project Puffin in bringing puffins and other rare Maine seabirds back to historic nesting islands. Here the public can view puffins and other seabirds in real time through a remarkable video system that delivers live video to the Center. Visitors can also learn about the success and challenges faced by Audubon and its conservation partners to restore and protect the seabirds on Maine islands and beaches. An all-around educational and fun stop in your travels!

3 and 4 days before Thanksgiving we came to Rockland and tried to become familiar with the Puffin Visitor Center. Over the period of 2 days, we tried to get into it, but a note always said that "we will be back in a little while" without giving the day nor the time of day. Very disappointed, Barb from NH and Edith from N.Y.
