We were quite surprised to read any negative reviews of this restaurant after eating an amazing meal there last night. The place was hopping with the Valentine's rush and we were very impressed with how well the whole staff worked together to provide the whole restaurant with excellent service and AMAZING food! We sat at the bar and had a perfect view of the chef and her kitchen. She was so much fun to watch, we've never seen anyone hand whip creme in 2 minutes flat. We watched plate after plate come out of the kitchen and thought they all had a lovely presentation and looked mouth watering. One of the surprises of the evening came as an appetizer of baked dates with goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto - if you've never experienced this treat, we highly recommend it. It was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The next time anyone is in Rockland we think "In Good Company" should be at the top of your list of places to dine.

This was a lovely little wine bar that served food. Don't get me wrong. The food was very good but it is primarily a wine bar. We had an assortment of appetizers that were all fantastic. I had filet mignon that was cooked well but the block of potatoes that came with it were dry. We had the chocolate fondue and apple cranberry crisp for dessert. The fondue was great. The crisp was good but a little overcooked around the edges.

Having read a few very positive reviews of this place we went for dinner. Needless to say the title of this review says it all. Mind you, I admit that we have eaten in a number of French restaurants in Europe and are a bit biased, but as my partner put it, "I hate when things are just not thought through".

First off, the tables and chairs are no match for the lovely space that the restaurant is in. The old bank ceiling is regal, but the rest is vintage Goodwill. Second, the bar is a series of bottles set out in front of you. Problem? No, but the owners are serving food at the bar and have to walk around to put the plates in front of you. Third, the food. Normally, I don't remember or even care about the price of a really good meal, but this was overpriced for what it was. My partner had the duck, which was dry and very thickly sliced. In fact the end piece of the duck was so thick it really couldn't be sliced with the dull steak knife that was provided. I had a small piece of steak that was killed by the melted salty cheddar on top of it. We had 2 bottles of water, a glass of wine, a beer, a salad and 2 starters. This came to $87 before tip (by the way the service was good - so we gave the standard 15%). Finally, the place is very small and the kitchen clearly doesn't have a good exhaust fan as we both came out of In Good Company smelling like a bacon sandwich.

To us the whole thing was a huge disappointment. Everything just screamed of a chef that hadn't bothered to show up for all her cooking classes. There was also a travel critic eating in the restaurant on the same night; she didn't look impressed either. Take our advice, eat next door at Suzuki's Sushi or down the street at The Rockland Cafe (We ate at both and they were both good food with good value for the money).

Once again trip advisor lead us to a unique place that was uniquely great. We ordered like at a tapas place. The food was wonderful. Great use of local ingredients and creativity I'm preparation. Well worth the trip.
