Amato's in Rockland has closed. The food was not that great and the service was a little slow .Not like the one in Portland

“Quick, good food”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

We stop here while walking the town waiting for our train back to Brunswick. It's only a couple of blocks away and the varied menu and great pricing beats the restaurant at the station or the tourist-busy restaurants down by the piers or closer to and on the Main drag.
Our experience here with Amato's will certainly ensure we'll seek them out in other parts of New England. I'd much rather eat here than a subways or a Quiznos!

“Take out”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

They advertise as being in business since 1902. We arrived to find a take out with 5 or 6 tables and ordered assuming they also offered inside dining. They do sell wine however you cannot drink in Amato's. We proceeded to order a small pizza and spaghetti with sausage. The meals arrived in to go packaging which we then decided to take with us. The pizza was average, the spaghetti was overcooked, the sauce mediocre, the sausage not bad! If you are looking for an Italian experience this is not it. If take out will work, probably as good as it gets in Rockland as they were busy!

“Decent Italian fast food.”
Reviewed July 9, 2010

If you want an Italian "quick fix" the food here is pretty good and the service is quick. I enjoy their meatball subs. The sandwiches that they make are much better than the "pre made" Italians which are on a plain white sub roll that gets soggy after sitting a while. Overall a great value
