What a delightful surprise to find a family owned restaurant with excellent, fresh, and well-prepared local dishes. My husband and I both had the smoked haddock corn chowder - prepared fresh - no sitting around mushy stuff. It was full of smoked fish, creamy potatoes, sweet corn, and bits of bacon to add to the smoky flavor with just enough cream to make it a chowder. Yum. I would have been satisfied with just that and a salad. My husband had the Best of the Best chicken wings which was such a large portion he had to take some home - not something he ever does. And I had the seared scallop salad which was perfect with new potatoes and kale sauteed and dressed with a light dressing. The Maine scallops were fresh (no frozen seafood here) and done perfectly; not rubbery, just melt in your mouth sweet. The chef really knows how to cook seafood. Definitely will return to try their fresh Maine crabmeat bun. The owner made us feel like she was glad to see us. To be welcomed appreciatively, to be served graciously, and to be presented with great food as well, is something we rarely find. And, did I mention this restaurant is in a vintage train station? Cool.
