Owner description: Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.

“Ah, don't miss the Farnsworth Musuem and Shop”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

Our first stop was at the converted Methodist Church that is now part of the Farnsworth. The exterior is nothing to "write home about" but the interior is spacious with interesting and pleasing architectural additions. A few steps away is the larger Farnsworth - a peaceful way to spend the morning or afternoon.

“Farnsworth is a gem!”
Reviewed April 30, 2013 via mobile

We were pleasantly surprised this weekend to discover the Farnsworth Art Museum when we were visiting Rockland, Maine. It is a wonderful place. Two hours goes by quickly and you have seen some wonderful examples of American art. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. It is right on the Main street which also has some nice art galleries, shops and restaurants.

“An Artistic Treasure Trove”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

The small town of Rockland , ME is the home of an unbelievable treasure trove of art! If you are a fan of the Wyeth family of artists, this museum cannot be missed. Look up the various artists that are on display who include, not only the Wyeths but, Robert Indiana, and Louise Nevelson. I'm going to point out that it is easy to get to, easy to get around, has good parking and is surrounded by some amazing places to dine and talk about the treasure trove you have just discovered.

“A small treasure”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

We live in Maine for five months of the year and are always amazed by all this museum offers. In addition to the galleries of Wyeth works (as well as other noted artists--Benson, Nevelson come immediately to mind), the musuem offers tours and lectures which are always worth attending. Last summer we heard several experts speak on various aspects of the Civil War and attended a fabulous lecture by Jamie Wyeth. Really, this musuem does so much more than just exhibit art. It is an integral part of Rockland.
